It probably won't, but if you jailbreak your iPod touch and then update the operating system (giving you new features that Apple is offering), your data will be wiped from your iPod and it won't work anymore, which is a major disadvantage because if you want to do new, cool stuff on your iPod, jailbreaking will stop you from getting a lot of it.
That's why I DON'T recommend jailbreaking.

The feature is only available on iOS 4 (firmware 4.x). So if you go to the Settings app > General > About, it will show which firmware version you are running.
You can either upgrade or jailbreak your iPod to be able to do that.
