Ithaca Firearms

The 311 series was manufactured from 1941 to 1989. If made after 1968 it WILL have a serial number and if made earlier it MAY (but probably won't) have one. If it was manufactured between March 1949 and December 1968 it will have a circle around a number and letter stamped on the bottom between the triggerguard and the hinge pin. A thru N = 1949 thru 1962, P = 1963, and R thru V = 1964 thru 1968.

Genuine Armory Steel was a mark used by Crescent Firearms, 1893-1930, and also by Meriden Fire Arms, 1905-1915. The phrase doesn't really mean anything except that the barrels are not laminated steel.

Go to diamondgunsmithing on the internet and enter your serial number. That will do it.

A Sousa grade Ithaca should have engraving on almost every square inch of the metal. If you have no engraving, you have a field grade gun.

I have found out that these were made around 1973 through 1976. A friend bought one from a store in NC in 1975. I bought the other one from that same store about 1984 new in the box. The serial number is just a little bit older that this one. It starts out with 2302XXX. They had the gun in the store without selling it. I paid $189.00 for it.

Manufactured by Harrington & Richardson very near that patent date.

Is there any more to the name? Vorisek lists only single shot guns marked only "Nitro".

I have a Stevens 1915 410 with one barrel riffled and its in perfect working order, dead accurate, and its in the best condition I have ever seen for that time era. Mines been feeding the family for generations.

You can find an owners manual for a Savage Arms Foremost model 6670H, 12 gauge shotgun by contacting the company. The phone number to call for the manual is 413 642-4261.

Ithaca absorbed several older companies and would have acquired their patents, so the 1880 date probably refers to a patent previously held by Syracuse Arms, Lefever Arms, Union Fire Arms, or Wilkes-Barre Gun Company.

I assume your Ithaca is a common grade, such as field or 1. 1916 was the middle of the flues-double era and one in VG to excellent shape would be worth about $600. Your is probably worth $150-$300 depending on the details such as the extent of the pitting and wood damage, tightnessand fit of the action, grade of the gun, whether it's all original and whether has any factory options such as single trigger or ejectors. If the shotgun has any sentimental significance to you, you might want to just keep it. I've sold a few old guns because they were in rough shape and I'd pay twice the price to get them back now. Finally, be very careful if you fire your old Ithaca -- modern smokeless powder and powerful loads can rupture the barrels and injure or kill the user. Some additional info: The barrel pitting is on the exterior of the barrels and is minor. The bores are clean with no pitting. Both barrels are stamped "Smokeless Powder Steel". The receiver/action is tight. The wood has some scratches and mars but no chips or cracks. The gun has double triggers. The receiver has engraved on both sides a dog on point between two bushes. This ia an Ithaca Gun Co. "Crass" model double and was made in 1896. REFERENCE: the Reference Center pages at www.ithacagunrepair.com - 02-16-07 SPR.

Without any further info on your specific firearm, the only dates that I can give are from 1937 to 1987. Ithaca made several different variations of the Model 37, some of which went out of production before others. Production did start in 1937, and the last variations of the Model 37 were replaced by (or renamed to) the Model 87 in 1987.

Mississippi Valley Arms was a trade name distributed by Shapleigh Hardware Co of St LouisThey Were made by W.H. Davenport Arms Co (1891-1910), Crescent Fire Arms (1892-1930), and J. Stevens Arms (1930-1948).

the model 235 hammer guns were made from 1912 to 1932 in different chokes and styles, 90% or better run between 5 to 600 dollars, 95% or better slightly higher, i have several 235's, well made doubles for their time
