How do you replace the alternator belt 1994 Jaguar xjs 4L?
I removed my alternator this year on my '95. There is a tension adjusting bolt which has a lock nut on it. I believe it requires adjustment of the nuts on both sides of a bracket arm. I seem to recall that it was 14 mm. I was doing it on grass, and one has to remove air filter cannister first. It took me quite a while (but I had alternator actually out). It's a little tight in there. I would budget at least several hours.

Why don't the dash lights work on my 1995 jaguar xjs conv?
Only a suggestion I'm afraid.
I thought that the dash lights weren't working on my '89 XJ-S until I tried the dimmer knob in every possible position. It produced a very dull glimmer for about 10% of its total range of movement somewhere between 60 and 70 % of the way round and nothing anywhere else
Before you write off your dash lights try all possible positions for the knob

Where is the battery in a vanden plas jaguar?
In a Vanden Plas Jaguar, the battery is typically located in the trunk, specifically on the right side beneath the floor panel. This placement helps maintain a balanced weight distribution and frees up space under the hood for the engine components. To access the battery, you may need to lift the trunk floor or remove a cover. Always consult the owner's manual for specific instructions related to your model.

There's no way without damage if the link has fallen off. Probably best to remove number plate and cut a hand-sized hole in bootlid behind. You should then be able to feel the linkage and pull it up. It's very stiff though. Don't try to lever the boot up, the latch is very strong and you'll do more damage than cutting a hole.
The cyclic fluctuation of your idle from 700rpm to 1500rpm is caused by a vacuum leak. This leak is causing a very high idle. The ECU has a fuel cut-off feature that temporarily cuts the fuel supply if the rpm exceeds about 1800rpm while the engine is at closed throttle. The idle drops as the fuel is cut off, but rises again when fuel is restored, causing the cyclic fluctuation. The solution is to find the vacuum leak. The most common cause of this on the XJ-S is the AAV. (Auxiliary Air Valve) This is the valve that lets in extra air during warmup, then slowly closes off as the engine gets up to operating temperature. The AAV is in the metal housing below the short 90 degree hose at the back of the driver side intake manifold. The AAV can stick open. If the car's idle fluctuates only after warmup, it is likely the AAV. If the idle fluctuates immediately on cold start-up, it is more likely a different air leak. To track down a vacuum (air) leak on the Jaguar V-12, warm up the engine, shut it off, then remove the driver side air filter cover and air filter. Restart the car and cover the AAV air intake hole with something large enough to plug the hole, but NOT something that could be sucked in. The AAV hole is smaller and in front of the throttle body opening. If the idle drops down and the fluctuation stops, the AAV is the problem. If not, listen for a hissing and track down the vacuum leak. Brittle, broken vacuum hoses are a common cause. Good luck. Tony Evans, Omaha NE
Hi, I run a '93 4.0 litre xjs, so far no problems in this respect. However my '94 2.0 litre mondeo (78,000) family owned car had this problem, automatic as well. I replaced the air sensor unit/air flow unit, with genuine replacement and this cured the problem . For years whilst my father ran the car the engine would be idling like this. When the car was handed over I couldn't stand it and worked through a haynes manual quickly finding the fault. It was a big relielf and the ford part was 72 pounds. I hope this gives you some help. Regards Andrew.
Why does my 1988 Jaguar XJS V12 have no fast idle on cold start and idles high when warm?
Hi I'm new to the Jag world but believe it will probably linked to your AAV, auxilary air valve. located at the rear left of your engine with fairly large hoses leading from the left air cleaner and back into the left manifold. it has a wax pellet driven piston and this is renowned for sticking. If only partly open it will not give you good cold idle speed and when warm it will give you high idle.
