They were in love, but never married. Spencer Tracy's wife was brain dead I believe, so he wanted to wait to marry Katharine Hepburn until his wife died. But tragically Spencer Tracy died before his wife, so him and Katharine Hepburn were never husband and wife.

What was james dean's role in defining the american teenager?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Dean was a symbol of rebellion. American families had never seen anything like him before. When he began acting, his characters become famous for their total disregard of parental authority.

According to biographers and those who knew him in real life, James Dean was indeed rebellious. It is widely rumoured that he was bisexual and quite permiscuous. In the 1950's this was a huge deal.

Dean wanted to change the landscape of acting and of social beliefs. He portrayed strongwilled teenagers in his movies who "put adults in their places", so to speak. Teens all over the country were overjoyed to see someone who was brave enough to buck the system. Parents were shocked at his disrespect for traditional values and social boundaries. But kids loved it. Many have blamed James Dean for thetearing down of the traditional American/Christian value system that caused young people to question those very traditions and begin to change the way they looked at their upbringing.

I personally believe James Dean thought the whole thing was one big middle finger to the morals and values of Christians in our country. Obviously, this did him little good, as he never got to enjoy the havoc he started. He died at the age of twenty four. An arrogant young man who thumbed his nose at law enforcement, at God and at authority in general.

What kind of car was James Dean in when he crashed?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

In September 1955, Dean replaced his white Porsche 356 Super Speedster with a new, silver Porsche 550 Spyder. Dean had the car specialized by having the number "130" painted on both the front and back. Also painted on the back of the car was "Little Bastard," Dean's nickname given to him by Bill Hickman (Dean's dialogue coach for Giant). On September 30, 1955, James Dean was driving his new Porsche 550 Spyder to an auto rally in Salinas, California when the fatal accident occurred. Originally planning to tow the Porsche to the rally, Dean changed his mind at the last minute and decided to drive the Porsche instead.

Was actor James Dean circumcised?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I honestly have no idea. He was born in the USA around a time where circumcision was fairly common. However a man's ethnicity or nationality does not determine whether he will be circumcised or not. For example I know American guys who are uncircumcised and I know European guys who are circumcised. But getting back to James Dean, the only way to know if he is/was circumcised, is if he appeared nude in a movie or if he said so himself-neither of which he did...at least I don't think. Therefore the only answer that I can give is that we'll never know and we'll just have to use our imaginations.

Was James Dean on Drugs?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There is no evidence to say James Dean took drugs. He was a drinker and he smoked.

Many people who worked with him said he had many mood swings but this was likely because of his childhood.

His good friend jack Simmons said he was an alcoholic but never mentioned anything about drugs.

I personally do not thing he was.

What is the value of James Dean Stamps originally worth 32 cents?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

This is a common US commemorative stamp.

If you want to buy just one it will probably cost you from 15 to 70 cents at a stamp store.

If you want to order it by mail, you would have to pay postage and handling in addition.

Dealers get them as part of larger lots for almost nothing per stamp- say 65% face if mint and 1/2 cent if used.

It is the kind of stamp I use on letters if unused or give to kids if used.

Who is more famous James Dean or Lady Gaga?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

This is an Apples and Oranges situation.

James Dean is known the world over, has been since he began acting. His popularity continues now long after his death.

Lady Gaga has only begun her career, and while she is wildly popular now, so were the Bay City Rollers when they were performing. Heard of them? No. Time will tell with Lady Gaga too.
