James Knox Polk ( Nov 1795 -June 15, 1849) had five brothers. They were

Franklin Ezekiel ( August 23, 1802- January 21, 1831)

Marshall Tate (Jan 17, 1805 - April 5, 1831

John Lee ( Mar. 23, 1807 - Seot 28, 1803)

William Hawkins (May 24, 1815 - December 16, 1862)

Samuel Wilson Oct 17, 1817- Feb. 24, 1839

In November, 1845, he was sent as minister to Mexico by President Polk, to adjust the difficulty caused by the annexation of Texas to the United States. His instructions to 1) obtain Mexican recognition of the Rio Grande as the border between Texas and the United States; 2) offer American forgiveness of the claims by U.S. citizens against the Mexican government; 3) purchase the New Mexico area for $5 million; and 4) purchase California at any price. The mission failed when the Mexican government refused to accept his credentials. The United States declared war on Mexico on May 13, 1846, and Slidell returned in January 1847 and resigned.

Yup. He died from chronic diarrhea. So he pretty much died from pooping to much.

President Polk was the front man for Stone-wall Jackson and his aggressive expansionist tendencies. Both those territories were taken as prizes of war. A War that President Polk provoked in the name of Manifest Destiny. won and never got to enjoy since he died early in his retirement.

Yes, Polk was a very good student. He excelled at mathematics and was good at debate and public speaking as well as Latin and Greek and philosophy. He was chosen to give the Lain addess at commencement.

He died of cholera, but his sheer exhaustion after the four laborious years of office and the ceremonies attending his trip home had left his immune system ill-fitted to resist disease. An old illness shortly returned, and after a few weeks spent in looking to the improvement of his estate, he died. He probably had the shortest retirement of any former president in US history - less than four months.
