Trac-Loc axles require a friction modifier to be added. Crawl under your GC and look for a metal tag under one of the bolt heads that says to use the friction modifier. You will likely have to wipe the tag off to read it. My tag was at about the 4 o-clock position on the rear of the differential. Do you have the factory tow package? I believe limited slip diffs were part of this package. You can also go to http://www.jeep.com/wccsapp/universal/J/index.jsp?appStr=wccs&titleStr=Contact+Jeep&familyStr=brand&franchise=J&actionURL=%2Fwccs%2Fbrand_forms%2Fus%2Fwebform.jsp&promotion=null&category=U and request your 'build sheet' which they will email you in a few days. It will tell you if the GC left the factory with the Trac-Loc differential.
your fan does not come on unless your car gets hot.if you lift your hood when you start your car the fan will not be running .but when your car gets to hot it will come on.or you may have a short in it.....check out
Open the hood and you can get behind it with a long screwdriver. Simply pop it toward you by prying with the screwdriver. You'll see that it is simply mounted on 3 metal ball tipped shafts that press into the plastic housing. For installation, lubricate the 3 plastic mounting points with spit or some other lubricant and knock it back on with your fist at each of the 3 points. Yer welcome!
One on the block and one on the body i think
No! needs to be at least a 3 in lift or they will rub the fenders.
How high does it idle in park? It could be a few things depending on the amount of idle. It could be a vacume line, it could be your idle screw. If you will post or email me at mudislife2@yahoo.com the amount that it idles at than i can help you more from there.
Yes, the only significant changes is that the 1990 didnt have airbags and the 1995 did. There will also be slight wiring differeneces but nothing that will stop you from taking parts from one and putting it on the other. Pretty much all jeep parts are interchangeable. I've seen a 88 with a 96 motor. and my 91 xj limited has seats from a later model grand cherokee.
You disarm it by unlocking either of the front doors with a key. If that doesn't work, that means that the lock cylinder switch has fallen off of the cylinder. You will have to remove the door panel to reinstall/replace.
OR. you could just pop the hood, and diconnect the battery for about a minute
A 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee will not go into reverse if the transmission is defective or the shift linkage is not aligned properly. A local transmission shop or dealership can thoroughly diagnose and repair the issue.
Yes, but with the provision that there are no problems as seen by the car's computer. Disconnect the negative battery cable for a couple of minutes then reconnect. This will erase any trouble codes stored in the computer. If everything is okay, the CHECK ENGINE light will stay off. If the computer sees a problem, the CHECK ENGINE light will come on again.
First jack up the front wheels off the ground and check all suspension parts for play.
If you get it done from a shop around $250 total for the new part, labor, and the computer diagnosis fee that is required for the mechanic to figure out what the probem is.
There is no idle pulley on 1995 GC's with 4.0 Inline 6. To replece the serpentine belt;
1) Draw a diagram of the existing routing. 2) Loosen the alternator. 3)Remove old belt and compare to the new belt. 4) Install new belt. 5) Tighten new belt by tightening alternator.
on the 5.2 and 5.6 just rotate tension pulley to the right if you are standing in front of Jeep install and release the tension pulley and let it tighten
you can only adjust the rear drum brakes buy turning the star wheel on the automatic adjuster. there is a black rubber plug you can remove on the back of the backing plate to get the star wheel. or you can take the wheel and drum off and adjust it that way.
Usually The Temperature Will Range Between 160-195 depending on the type of thermostat installed and assuming all fan relays etc.. are operating (You have a low fan and high fan limiter for the electric fan @ the Radiator) If you are having a problem with overheating turn on Air Condition or Defroster on some vehicles this causes the fan to work indicating high blower relay may be to blame Hope This Helps
If you just want to release the lock, there is a small door on the inside right side of the door panel. Remove the small door and stick your finger through the slit in the sound deadening material. You will feel a metal lever behind the material. Push down on the lever and the lock will release. You can now open the liftgate from outside. To access the entire mechanism: Pull the rear panel after removing any seen screws, there are two hidden in the carpet,on the lower left and right of panel.once panel is pulled back, remove sound deadening material.Reach into the center and left side facing out of latch.grab the steel rod and pull up.this should release the hatch. Sometimes the steel rod becomes completely disconnected from the latch mechanism due to breakage of the plastic fastener that normally connects the upper threaded end of the rod to the lift handle. In that case, reach down farther to the actual latch mechanism housing just above the floor of the trunk area. Find the small lever that the bottom of the steel rod normally connects to and pull up on it to release the latch.
for 4.0l/ 4.7l H.O. use 10w30 for 4.7l use either 10w30 or 5w30 but 5w30 is preferred
11.14.08 revision. The new fix to this issue on my jeep was to replace the computer (ECM) ($400 part) and the ignition coil ($73 part) too. The wires to the computer had poor connections and the coil not getting spark. While it was a little costly with labor (~$700 total) it certainly is better than car payments.REVISION TO MY PREVIOUS ANSWER: The CSS fix provided only a temporary fix ... the issue returned within a few weeks whenever there was rainy weather. Once the air had dried out the jeep starts again. But, until then, nothing. So, do not rely on the replacement of your CSS to fully correct the issue. This issue was just resolved today in my 95 Country. First, do a full tuneup - spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor - if that has not been done recently. This took care of the problem for a few weeks, but then the issue returned. Next, change the crankshaft sensor - that part cost about $125. The guy at Napa said that is a common part to go bad on Jeeps. It is not an easy part to take the two bolts off of - because it is located in a tight spot - and be careful to not let either bolt fall into the flywheel opening. But if you can get the two bolts off and then back on again with the new CSS, you should run well again.
The question you ask is too involved for a proper answer. You may want to go to a car parts store, or book store, and get a repair manual for your car. They cost about $16.00 Or, go to a Public Library.
sae 10w-30 or sae 10w-40 would be the best if u are currently using normal motor oil. or if it currently has sybthetic motor oil use that. no matter wat u decide, make sure u stik with that type of oil.
It could be any of a number of reasons. Such as: You are out of freon. Your compressor doesn't work. Really the only thing your light being on is telling you is that the fuse isn't blown. And your heater has nothing but the blower motor and duct work in common with the air conditioner. I would suggest a good mechanic or a Haynes or Chiltons Manual if you are mechanically enclined. Good luck. Jeeps are notorious for the AC going out more than likely your heater core box is full of debris and the fore you have to go to the dealer ship and they cahrge you $850 to clean it then they tell you how you need a new condenser and that is another $850 this has happend 2X to me my suggestion is get rid of it additional info: there are a number of posts on Wiki concerning AC problems with Jeep GC's. My experience is that you probably are having a problem with a clogged drain tube leaving the evaporator box. This is assuming that your freon system is fully charged. I would have a reputable AC tech check the freon first and then turn my attention to the drain. The previous answer is correct about the debris in the evaporator box and it is a result of extremely poor engineering on the part of Jeep. Keep looking on line and you will find out more.
Of course, you have to be sure that the compressor is working, the system is charged and things are getting cold. A simple check of the refrigerant lines going into the firewall with your hand will give you an indication of whether the system is cooling or not. If the lines are cold, your problem may be with the blend door or re-circ door. The blend door diverts some or all of the air flow through the heater core. When this door breaks, you lose control over the air flow and can see problems with both heat and AC. Usually the broken blend doors fall to the bottom of the heater box on the GC and block heat. However, it is not uncommon for the doors to fall crooked and kill the AC function also. The re-circ door is also susceptible to failure. This door chooses between external and internal air going into the system. When it fails, you are contstantly pulling hot, outside air into the system, greatly reducing AC efficiency. Both of these fail modes are common. Check the HeaterTreater listings on Ebay for more diagnostic information and an inexpensive fix for the problem
These vehicles only run a one-line fuel system meaning that the fuel pressure regulator is part of the fuel sender--fortunately on these vehicles they combine the fuel pressure regulator and fuel filter into one assembly--which is changeable, but the fuel tank has to be lowered to be accessed--I assume the vehicle is starting hard when cold--common problem with these vehicles--if taken to a dealer mechanic, they will probably tell you replacement of the entire sending unit is necessary--which is not true--
Yes, BUT it depends on wheel/tire size. Most wheels that big will hit the corners of the bumper/fender, leading to custom bodywork/cutting.
Personally I wouldn't go 24 inch wheels, because it's too hard on the stock suspension. Smaller rims with bigger tires are more comfortable and softer ride.
go to one auto shop store and buy some recharging A/C system kit, and also buy the couplings for your LOW SIDE A/C PORT, which is NOT r13-14a, is R12, that's called freon, the KIT is around 40 dolls and the KIT with the valves (converters from R12 to r13-14a) is around 10 dollars, you could make with these your conversion to r13-14a, good luck!
The PDC is the under hood fuse box, right next to the battery.
