Does Singapore have martial arts?
Its a Chinese enclave city, so, probably. The one I know for certain that it has, and this is something the city is famous for among homeland Chinese, is Hung Gar Chuan; the founding teacher of the Kung Fu school, handily defeated Masatatsu Oyama, the founder of Kyokshin Karate, in a test of skill. The reason the more advanced Katas in Kyokshin have circular movements that ressemble Kung Fu, has to do with Oyama's defeat at the hands of that teacher. If you do go to Singapore, likely the style you will end up studying is Hung Gar Chuan.

What black belt rank does one need to start a karate school?
The specific rank does not matter. It is more about the style and what the head of the style allows. And it can vary from person to person as well. I was allowed to start classes at a new location and teach when I was a 2nd kyu. At the same time, I am aware of 3rd degree blackbelts that have not been allowed to open a school.

Overall what is best fighting style karate or judo?
Even though Judo and Karate are both Japanese martial arts they focus on completely different fighting styles.
Karate means empty hand, Karate focuses primarily on striking techniques such as delivering punches and kicks, karate practitioners are trained to maximize the force behind their punches/kicks.
Judo means the gentle way, the sport of Judo was formed from traditional Japanese combat art of Ju-Jutsu. Modifications were made which eliminated striking techniques, in Judo instead of going strength against strength the practitioner uses their opponents leverage to throw them. Judo unlike Karate also involves grappling and the use of joint locks, wind and blood chokes. It is impossible to with 100% accuracy state which art is better, from stand-up karate has the advantage of using strikes and the judo practitioner who does not use strikes has throws and leg sweeps at their disposal.
Karate practitioners who are not trained to fight on the ground are at a major disadvantage to the Judo practitioner who is trained in grappling, joint locks, and wind/blood chokes. Both styles have their advantages and disadvantages and neither style is better than the other, it all depends on the practitioner.
In my opinion the best fighting style would not be a single style but a mixture of styles; such as a mixture of muay thai, judo, karate, and Brazilian jujitsu.

What is the difference between todays Karate and the original Karate?
The Short Answer is intent! Earlier empty hand development was developed for life threatening events. The training grading was slow and often a student would incur injury learning the techniques associated the branch they were studying. Today the Mentality of most people would not tolerate the lack of positive acknowledgement with a two belt grading process of the old days just white and black. I should also add that shodan is just a first degree. It only states that you know all the basics well. There are nine other degrees to obtain! The degrees have specific developmental levels attached to them. I have personally found often many dan rated practioners are not fully informed of their positions of development relative to their ability to disseminate information and executive technique, which is disheartening.
How much does a karate instructor makes per hour?
Depends on the number of students, how many instructors and the overhead of the dojo. Some work for free, others for a percentage and others for a basic wage rate. There are days I show up to teach and there are no students. I get nothing, but there are still costs to be paid.
Is kiya a word used in martial arts?
'Kia' is the word used to describe the short shout often used in martial arts. It is often translated as 'spirit shout.' The yell is used to focus one's energy and tightens up the body. This helps focus power in strikes and kicks as well as protecting the body against incoming blows. It can also take the spirit out of one's opponent(s) and make them think twice about attacking you. Some practitioners actually use the word 'kia' as their shout, but any word or sound that focusses one's energy can be used. Mine tends to be a rather loud, low 'huhhhh' while others may be very high and sharp.
