Make sure both the socket and bulb have the same number of contacts (both two or both one ). If a single contact bulb is plugged into a two contact socket it will short both of the contacts in the socket together and backfeed a power signal from either circuit into the circuit on the other contact.

August 1-August 15, 1995 Five long-time friends from Bourbonnais, IL, Joshua T. Schlesinger, Cary Johnson, Toby Moore, James Haigh and Shawn McKay swam from Mackinac Island, MI to Oak Street Beach in Chicago to help raise money for the Jon Santo Freedom Jet Foundation, which provides needle free injection systems for under privileged children with diabetes.
The swimmers traveled a distance of 356 miles from start to finish. This feat, swimming the length of the largest body of fresh water in the United States, had never been done before.
Local newspapers such as the Chicago Tribune and the Sun Times were on hand, as well as Chicago television affiliates from FOX, WGN, ABC, NBC and CBS and radio stations WGN, WMAQ and WMVP.
Since this journey had never been accomplished before, they were commended for their achievement by Vice President Al Gore, Gov. Jim Edgar, U.S. Rep. Jerry Weller and Chicago Mayor Richard Daley.
They also received phone calls from Olympic gold medal winners Greg Louganis and Tom Jager, who was so impressed by their achievement that he took time out of his Olympic training to fly in and meet the team.

Vicki Keith from Kingston, Ontario, Canada swam across Lake Michigan during the summer of 1988 as part of an event that saw her become the first person to swim across all five Great Lakes. She completed this task in a 2 month period and raised $548,000 to help kids with disabilities.

Jim Dreyer followed triathlon rules as opposed to marathon swimming rules and therefore wore a wet suit for his crossing. Wet suits are not permitted under the FINA marathon swimming rules, so although he was successful in the crossing, and was able to help kids in the Big Brothers and Big Sisters organization, his swim should not be compared with marathon swimmers like Vicki Keith and Paula Stephanson who follow marathon swimming rules and therefore wear only a bathing suit, and bathing cap and have their swims overseen by a marathon swimming governing body to ensure all rules are adhered to.
