Land Rover Discovery

Due to anti-knocking technology on all Land Rovers (since 1996), one could use regular gas in a Land Rover. However, premium gas is recommended because of its combustion rating (92). Using regular gas would still make the car move and with anti-knock technology, the engine wouldn't knock, but regular gas would compromise gas mileage, fuel efficiency, and overall engine life.

I assume this is an auto? Get underneath and with a struggle you will see a cable connector block that feeds the autogearbox switch. It will be hidden behind the exhaust on the passenger side. Just above it is a tube the AC drain. It lets water go all over the connector block and that then corrodes the connection and the voltage loss causes a the M and S lights to flash and limp home mode. Another cause of this can be a tired battery. This can also create M&S flashing lights. Check battery coltage. Should be 12-5V + at rest and 14.5V + when engine running.

the brake fluid level is low in your master cylinder, add some brake fluid and the light will stay off

you are correct it uses both. confusing i know. its a mystery to me too......

There are 2 Fuse Boxes on a 2003 110.

The first is behind the Plastic Panel that sits at the base of the centre DAshboard - Just in front of the Gear Lever and Transfer box lever.

The second is below the Drivers seat (on a RHD Model) along with the ECU.

Pretty expensive (from a garage). Most people scrap their cars after a head gasket has blown, or get a new engine.

If is a whitesh smoke then the head gasket has likely blown. The coolant is what gives it that color. If it is a bluesh/blackesh color then a piston or valve has been damaged. This is the common causes.

They were around£4'500-£5'000. Sold out pretty quick though.

has happened to me recently, in the front 2 corners of the sunroof are 2 plastic pipes about 30 mm long, on these are 2 flexible rubber tubes, which run down the door sill inside and drain the water away. over time the 30 mm pipes break thus letting water go all over, only way to fix is to remove sun visor , and access the sunroof under the head lining may be a garage

Its usually the Front Wheel Balance, but Being a Bushed Axle, Make sure all the bushes are good and there is no play in them. A set of worn Panhard Rod bushes Will not help, as will a Tired Old Steering Damper. I had the exact same problem. Severe wobble when I reached a particular speed (80kmph) I drove home and examined the undercarriage and discovered that clay/mud was stuck to the inside of both front and back left side wheels. (I had been driving off-road that day) I scraped all the mud out with my hands and tested the vehicle again. No more wobble!

The wiper relay on a discover II is on the fuse box under the steering wheel. It is however an integral part of the fuse box and is not a replaceable unit. The fuse-box will have to be replaced. Wipers also use the auxiliary relay. This is R7 and is located in the engine compartment fuse-box. Try replacing this with another relay of the same value from this fuse-box (temporarily) and see if your problem disappears.

The Petrol V8 was used from the 1970 Range Rover until the 2002 Range Rover and in all Discoverys until the end of series 2 (approx 2005), these all have the same bell housing for the V8. The same engines were used in Rover 3500 sedans and some other cars. The Leyland 4.4 liter V8 is also the same bell housing and was used in the P76 and the Terrier truck.

Conversion adapters are available to fit Ford V8 and six, LS1, Chev V8 and Holden V8.

The Diesel is different, it has a different bell housing and input shaft but it can be modified.

Washing an engine is never a good idea as water can get into the electrics. You can however take your car/engine to professional cleaners which will use special chemicals and steam to do the job.

Several things can cause your land rover not to turn over. I would start with checking the battery. Is it fully charged? Do you hear a click when you try to start it. If so, could be a weak battery or a faulty starter solenoid. Those two are the most probable.

Most places charge the same amount no matter which vehicle you have, as far as parts are concerned pads are relatively cheap 20-40 dollars, anything after that is availability, that's why rover parts can get expensive.

The cost of repair depends on what has to be done, a typical replace of pads or shoes and bleeding should be about $100, anything beyond that and you will have to be more specific.

For the 3.9 head bolts (streach bolts) only use new bolts and follow this sequence: Tighten to 20nm in correct sequence. Then tighten each bolt 90 deg turn in correct sequence. Wait 15 minutes. Then tighten each bolt a further 90 deg turn in correct sequence. Done.
