I have seen this tragedy happen too many times in my life. And not just with Lithium, but with many behavioral medications being mixed with recreational drugs. You can't just ask a friend if it's safe, nor can you just get on Wiki or WebMD and expect to make an educated decision about combining drugs.

You can honestly walk into any doctors office, tell them all of the drugs which you use and ask them what complications may arise from mixing these drugs. This is absolutely a necessary exercise if you choose to use drugs for recreational purposes and insist on mixing them.

I understand you want to drink I've taken seroquel and lithium before not lexapro though. anyways you can expect over intoxication the risk of comma and your illness will not fully be treated because this lessens the effects of your meds and what they are supposed to do i assume you are bi-polar well for us bi-polars we tend to want to drink but really should'NT. it can increase our risk of delutional or paronoid behavior. a beer seriously wont kill you but its not going to help your treatment. the bi-polar illness is hard enough to deal with you really should'NT make life harder on yourself then it already is. Also my doctor said i could drink on abilify in moderation so talk to your doc about that if you feel you can not quit. lithium makes you zombieish anyways abilify has few side effects and is amazing with bi-polar.

I'm currently trying to get off of Lexapro. I've been taking 10-20 mg for the past 5 yrs. I haven't experienced the noises, but certainly the sensation of swishing when turning my head side to side, as well as the vertigo/dizziness. Many other people cite the same sensations as this when withdrawing from Lexapro.

I attempted to stop taking Lexapro a few months ago, after 6 days of the withdrawal symptoms I went right back on it. The symptoms stopped by the 2nd day and I felt like myself again. Lexapro works wonders with depression but wreaks havoc with it's discontinuation syndrom!

Alcohol has never had an expiry date. Only the users have expiry dates.

Everybody's brain works differently and some medications may not help (like Prozac for me) so you have to find a medication and correct dosage that works for you and your particular situation. If you really want to see how long, I would suggest that you talk to your doctor, because they will know more about it than anybody off the street.

I think what you're describing is a "brain zap" which is an electric shock dizzy sensation. It's a common withdrawal symptom from discontinuing antidepressants. Best of luck getting off these drugs--I'm trying to come off Lexapro myself in order to save money.

Several weeks to (depending on duration/dose) months and in extreme cases a year. People have to remember their state of mind before beginning the SSRI. Often people think they should go back to 'normal' when they were not stable before beginning the medication.. so at best they will return to that state. (Sometimes people will return to a normalized state.. which is fantastic. Though it would be prudent to keep in mind that continueing on an AD might be the best option).

I know this isn't the answer you would like to hear, but it is highly varied.

If , for example, Lexapro was used for 2 months,.. It shouldn't take but a few weeks to return to a normalized chemical state. However if used for 2-3 years.. I would venture to guess it could take up to 6 months.. Those who have used it for 5-6.. or more years could be in quite an ordeal for 6months-12months before being 100% pre-AD.

It is not ruled out that certain SSRI's can cause permenant changes in the brain.. however neural plasticity is a very real thing, and the brain can and does adapt and 'heal' itself if given time. Which is often sped up by proper nutrition, excercise, and cognitive therapy. If all combined the recovery can be substantially shortened. Never under-estimate these simply but effective strategies.

You must be weaned off over a few weeks time. One side affect of stopping suddenly is a complete loss of balance and a funny fuzzy sound that buzzes through your head at the same time of the imbalance.And remember always involve your Dr. and take their advise.

it depends. If your talking about a week then yes, if your talking about a few months, you should talk to your doctor. If you stop to soon the second time you start taking it, you risk your symptoms coming back worse
