How long does it take for your sunburns to go?
It depends on how large the burned skin surface is, and the severity of the burn.
1st Degree Burns, characterized by pain, redness and sometimes swelling, tend to fade within 5 to 7 days, with pain receding gradually over that time. Pain may yield to itching, dryness and peeling of the skin. Best treated with cooling, moisturizing gels containing Aloe. Avoid greasy, petrolatum based ointments.
2nd Degree Burns, are typically more painful, and may include blisters, are more severe and will take longer to heal. Avoid breaking blisters and putting dressings on those that have already burst.
Any burn that is larger than 25% percent of the body surface, involves the palmar surfaces of the hands, involves the plantar (bottom) surfaces of the feet or involves genitalia (as happens in nude sunbathing), should be seen immediatly by a doctor.
Quick Tip: Assess the size of a burn by using your hand. Count how many "hands" it would take to to cover all the burns on a patient, and multiply that number by 9. This will give you a good approximation of the total burned surface area. For ANYBODY with a BSA of 25% or greater, notify EMS and get the person treated immediately!

How many days would it take to heal a sprain if you massage it every night with lotion?
It depends on what results you are hoping to get. For most people, in general, with minor aches and pains, massaging them for several minutes a day or every other day usually leads to relief in a short period of time, perhaps a few days.
A few words of caution: If someone has pain of unknown origin that last more than a few days and interferes with the activities of daily life, they should have it checked by a doctor. Depending on where you live, this could be a medical doctor, osteopath, naturopathic doctor, nurse practitioner, chiropractor, or even acupuncturist.
Also, if someone has muscular pain, it is best to get a treatment from a professionally trained, certified, and or licensed massage therapist. To find one, go the the AMTA website for a referral.

Can body lotion affect a cholesterol test?
I am the only one in this totally non-scientific study.
Diagnosed with pure hypercholesterolemia 10/16/09. Total cholesterol 294,HDL 82, Trig 101, LDL 192.
Put on pravastatin 20mg, changed to 40mg after 10 months. This brought cholesterol to 203, HDL 83, Trig 65, LDL 107. followed this dosage and rechecked blood work 8/16/11:Chol 210,Trig 94, HDL 75, LDL 116.
I have extremely dry skin, and have used one of the off-the-shelf hypoallergenic-sensitive skin lotions for years. Heard the reports of 48% chance of developing diabetes if on a statin.
Stopped taking the statin, and tried no skin lotion(except for cracking hands) for 10 months.
6/04/12 blood work:Chol 227, trig 46, Hdl 59, LDL 159. Admittedly, the LDL value is still a bit high, but the Trig value is better than any other taken, and the Chol value is much closer to the target of 200 that most doctors like.

How long should you keep body lotion?
Most skin-care products, even those with natural ingredients, contain preservatives to keep them fresher longer. "But like anything in nature, even preservatives lose their optimal function over time," says Fran E. Cook-Bolden, a New York City dermatologist. When it comes to body moisturizer, throw away unfinished containers that have been open for more than two years. (If you're using a lotion on a regular basis, though, odds are you'll need to replenish it before it expires.) An expired lotion doesn't hurt or damage skin, but the product won't lock in moisture or hydrate as thoroughly. Sealed and unopened bottles should be good for three years.
If, however, you notice changes in your moisturizer's smell or texture before the two- or three-year mark, toss it. The more active ingredients a lotion contains (like SPF) and the more bacteria introduced (as when you put your fingers into a jar), the less stable the lotion will be and the more quickly it will expire. Check the product's back label to find out how many active ingredients there are. Also, opt for pumps or tubes, which keep germs out effectively, over screw-top tubs that your fingers have to reach into. Finally, if you're not storing the lotion in a cool spot (about 10 degrees lower than normal room temperature), the lotion will probably spoil faster than usual.

How do you protects your skin from the sun when using a self tanning lotion?
Oh, dude, it's like a double whammy - protect your skin from the sun AND get that golden glow! So, first, slap on some sunscreen with SPF before applying that self-tanner. Then, after the tanner has worked its magic, keep your skin hydrated with a good moisturizer to maintain that sun-kissed look. It's like a skincare dance routine, but with less jazz hands.

If I leave my Indoor tanning lotion in the car over the winter does the cold weather hurt it?
Yes, it does! The contents of the lotion actually separate, which essentialy makes the lotion useless.
If you use skin whitening lotions to lighten your complexion then stop you could return to your normal colour if you do not protect your skin from the sun.
Adequate protection from the sun should go hand-in-hand with any skin lightening treatment and a high factor sun screen (at least SPF 15) should be worn daily even after you stop the treatment.
If you have those symptoms and haven't seen a doctor yet, I'd say you are probably suffering from iatrophobia. Go see your doctor.
