What hydrothermal means?

Hydrothermal means hot water.

A hydrothermal power station uses geothermal heat( hot rocks) to raise water to steam temperatures by pumping water down a well and up a parallel bore hole to drive a turbine to generate electricity. See Icelandic geothermal power

A hydrothermal vent is an hot spring of water heated by geothermal or volcanic heat underground. These vents can be on land such as the 'Old Faithful' geyser in Yellowstone National Park. They can also be in the ocean where scalding hot water vents into the sea and can support animal life far away from sunlight and conventional plant food.

The AMS notation, without the Maltese Cross + symbol, is assigned to self-propelled vessels and offshore units for which the machinery, boilers and systems have not been constructed and installed under survey by the Bureau, but are found satisfactory with regard to ABS requirements.

What are the advantages of anomalous expansion of water?

Normally, liquids contract on cooling & become more dense. However, water contracts when cooled to a temperature of 4oC and thereafter expands as it is cooled further from 4oC to 0oC. Water attains its maximum density at 4oC. This phenomenon is useful for the preservation of marine life in very cold temperatures. Initially, the surface water in water bodies starts cooling. Upon reaching the temperature of 4oC, the surface water descends to the bottom as it denser. Upon further cooling between 4-0 degrees C, a temperature gradient is set up in depths of the water body whereby, the bottom-most layer is at 4 deg C & the temperature gradually drops as one goes upwards. At 0 deg C, ice is formed. Ice being lighter than water, floats to the upper surface.and also because ice has space or kind of holes between it's molecules it is able to float in water. Further, water and ice are bad conductors of heat. All this help in the maintenance of temperature of the water at the bottom at 4 deg C. It is in this layer that marine life is able to sustain itself.

Benefits of a marine biologist?

Marine biologists have the opportunity to study and discover new marine species, contribute to conservation efforts to protect marine ecosystems, and work on innovative solutions to address environmental challenges facing our oceans. Additionally, they may have the chance to travel to exotic locations and work with a diverse range of marine organisms.

They can be found in various regions, including coastal areas, open ocean, coral reefs, and deep-sea environments. These biomes are characterized by factors such as salinity, depth, temperature, and light availability, leading to diverse ecosystems. Additionally, marine biomes can extend to estuaries and coastal wetlands, where freshwater meets saltwater.
