Building on the inherited inventions and ideas of earlier civilizations such as the Olmec, the Mayans developed astronomy, calendrical systems and hieroglyphic writing. The Mayans were noted as well for elaborate and highly decorated ceremonial architecture, including temple-pyramids, palaces and observatories, all built without metal tools. They were also skilled farmers, clearing large sections of tropical rain forest and, where groundwater was scarce, building sizeable underground reservoirs for the storage of rainwater. The Mayans were equally skilled as weavers and potters, and cleared routes through jungles and swamps to foster extensive trade networks with distant peoples.

The Mayans are regarded as the inventors of many aspects of Meso-American cultures including the first calendar and hieroglyphic writing in the Western hemisphere.

Archeologists have not settled the relationship between the Olmecs and the Mayans, and it is a mystery whether the Mayans were their descendants, trading partners, or had another relationship. It is agreed that the Mayans developed a complex calendar and the most elaborate form of hieroglyphics in America, both based on the Olmec's versions

They built one of the 1st observatories in human history. They also created the most accurate calendar to date by constantly studying the movement of the stars & planets.

They honored their Gods with human sacrifice as they believed human blood was the most precious thing they could offer the Sun God to repay their "blood debt" & believed the sacrifices kept the sun rising and setting each day.

They also built fantastic & intricate Temples & Cities that would rival even some of the work of the Egyptians.

Last but not least, among their many accomplishment, they built underground "aqueducts" underneath the city to take better advantage of the land above.

There was a dramatic difference between the clothes of Maya men and those worn by the women.

The men wore just a traditional cotton breechclout, sometimes with a sleeveless cotton shirt, but often without. Sandals were worn on the feet, usually with a distinctive wide strip of leather around the heel. Hair could be long and loose or worked into complex styles. Priests, royalty and nobles wore stiff capes or cloaks fastened on one shoulder and elaborate headgear in the shape of animals, birds or human figures, decorated with feathers.

Women were covered from neck to ankles in a blouse and a long wrap-around skirt worn with a sash.

All clothes were woven by the women, often with coloured threads or elaborate patterns worked into the cloth.

debateable depends whether you start Mayans as 1275bc or 100bc, and end them as 600 AD or 900 AD. And Aztecs start about 600 or 900 and run until 1519 AD. The Maya believed in the end as 630AD or 682 AD before Aztec came and started extending the world with blood sacrifice adopted from the Maya.
