Did the ancient sages in India fly while doing meditation as shown in some media?

Like in any religion these phenomenon always seem to take place in the distant past or in the near future So common sense dictates that it would be highly unlikely.

First things first, Meditation is silencing BODY, MIND & INTELLECT.

Secondly, While meditating in the initial stages on Chakras, they release lot of trivial and major powers like Levitation, etc... Such things are natural & are documented in Maharishi Mahesh Yogi TM Classes.

Now about the Question,

Did the ancient sages in India fly while doing meditation as shown in some media? The answer is an emphatic NO. They did not fly while doing Meditation!!!

The Sages were beyond such small display of powers. Sages are Masters who work with and under the guidance of the Effulgent Eternal LIGHT (GOD)!

Sage Gheranda and Sage Patanjali have documented few techniques, which is being practiced across the world even today to fly as a mode of travel. But that again won't be during Meditations. Sage Mahavatar Babaji (Babaji Nagaraj), does fly in his Light Body to various locations across the world and across Galaxies along with his inner circle of disciples. In Tahiti in Soyuth Africa regions the Shaman and Tribal Yoginis use Tantrik methods and do fly. In the ancient land of Bharata varsha too many are equipped with siddhis, yet they do not use it everytime.

Few of the sane and safe techniques which needs to be practiced with diligent care and guidance under a trained master are 'Paduka Siddhi', 'Khechari Vidya', 'Divya Shareera Dharana Siddhi', 'Akasha Gamana Siddhi', etc...

Again these siddhis are acquired during Meditations as stated earlier and no sage ever Flies during Meditations! Yes they do release their Awareness and expand in the unknown realms to gain knowledge and energies for Loka Kalyana and they work for entire creation.

What is yoga mountain pose?

Tadasana (tah-DAHS-uh-nuh) - is an active pose that helps improve posture, balance, and calm focus. Its name comes from the Sanskrit words "tada" (meaning "mountain") and "asana" (meaning "pose"). Tadasana is the foundational pose for all standing yoga postures and full inversions, such as Handstand and Headstand. It is the pose from which every other standing pose in your practice is born! The alignment, muscle movements, and mindset you learn in Tadasana are applied every time you do a standing yoga pose. So, it's important to learn how to do it correctly. Once you understand the proper form of Mountain Pose, it will be easier to gain and maintain the alignment for all other standing poses and inversions.

8 unbelievably difficult yoga poses you have to see to believe?

  1. Firefly Pose
  2. To get into this tricky position, you need to start in a squatted position and place your feet a little less than hip width apart. Tilt forward until your weight is on your hands. Then shift your self to your hands while you keep your knees close to your shoulders. Then stretch your legs out parallel to the ground and straighten your arms.
  3. Wounded PeacockTo get into wounded peacock, keep the fingers on your weight bearing hand turned out. Steady your feet on the floor while balancing your weight on your elbow and extend the other arm out and forward. Rest your fingers on the floor until you get your legs off the ground. Finish the pose by lifting the front arm off the ground as well.
  4. Lotus Headstand Variation with Bound LegsGet into a headstand position in your elbows in place to help you balance. Touch the soles of your feet together then bend at the knees to create a diamond shape. After some practice, try putting your hands together in prayer position.
  5. Eight-Angle PoseThis pose is rather complicated. To do it, go into a forward bend with your hands on either side of your feet, knees slightly bent. Put your right arm between your legs as you bend your knees and elbows, moving your right leg over the back of your right arm. Move your left leg to the right side of your body, cross your ankled and lift yourself off the floor.
  6. One Handed Tree PoseOnce you've mastered the handstand (which is tricky enough) try lifting an arm up. It requires immense arm and core strength, not to mention some pretty strong wrists.
  7. Crane PoseTuck yourself into a ball position, put your hands on the ground and bend your elbows. Put the back of your upper arms on your shins and shift your weight to the balls of your feed. Lean forward and transfer the weight to your hands. Then tuck your knees into the back of your arms. Straighten your arms and look forward.
  8. Forearm-Stand ScorpionStart with a simple headstand, with your hands clasped and your head between your arms. Then look up with your head and unclasp your hands, spreading your fingers out to keep your balance in forearm-stand. Brink your legs together and slowly bend your knees.
  9. Formidable Face PoseStart in downward facing dog with two blocks laying lengthwise in front of you, shoulder width apart. Bend your elbows and place your shoulders in the middle of the blocks. Walk your feet into dolphin pose and keep your hips lifted. Lift one leg into the air and then hop the second one up to meet it.

What are some examples of Zen practices?

Over the centuries a number of practices have arisen in Zen (Ch'an, Son) Buddhism. Slightly different practices have arisen in different places, especially in different countries, which have different languages and cultures. Like chanting, they are all designed to help practitioners "awaken" and then to live awakened lives.

There is no central authority in Zen. There is no official body to determine what is and what isn't an authentic Zen practice. Practitioners are not treated as children. Each practitioner is an adult expected to find and walk the way alone but with the support of the community of practitioners. The chief practice is zazen meditation. While other practices may be helpful, none are required. There are even slight differences in how zazen is practiced, but it's a simple meditation that is designed to still and empty the mind.

If it is happening in your legs, there is a condition called restless leg syndrome.

Does Descartes adequately solve the problem of Cartesian Scepticism in the Meditations?

Cartesian skepticism is not a problem by its own right. It is true that there are several objections to it, some of which he addresses, but whether he manages to defend his belief from all objections is dubious (ha-ha).

One of these objections reads as follows:

Descartes's hyperbolic doubt is logically self-defeating. The method is built upon the belief that all beliefs should be doubted; thus this pillar supports an argument that knocks itself down and collapses.

What is jnana yoga?

Not totally sure about all it entails. Trying to learn all this myself; religion class can be rough. I know it is one of the four "paths" to god. The four "paths" is a comparison used when describing the four different types of "yogas," pursued in the Hindu religion, that will attain "liberation." Liberation being the goal of all these different yogas. Jnana is the path of knowledge. So in turn, through knowledge you make your way to liberation/god. Good luck my friend.

How is attention affected during meditation?

During meditation, attention is consciously directed to an object. Most types of meditation that we hear about have as the focus of attention the breath or a mantra or perhaps simply the flow of experience (that last one gets tricky, since attention must keep pace with the fluctuations of perception, as opposed to centering attention on something that keeps repeating). Another type of meditation or contemplation would be directed thinking about a topic of spiritual significance, such as a passage of scripture. In all these cases, the attention has to be controlled. It cannot just wander about as it often tends to do when the mind is left to its own monkey tricks. When you notice your mind wandering, you have to bring the attention back to the object of meditation. The ultimate aim is for the mind to unite with the object of attention, so that there is no duality of subject and object of attention.
