Menstruation

Menstruation is the routine discharge, or release, of blood and mucosal tissue from the uterus. This process occurs about once a month from the time a female reaches puberty until menopause. During pregnancy, the monthly menstrual cycle is absent while the womb nourishes the growing fetus.

Can going off birth control make you break out after maybe say 3 months?

You should expect anything. That wouldn't seem to be out of the question. There is a lot going on with hormones when you're taking it.

Why menstruation cycle extends more than 28 days?

---- I believe that there is a big misnomer when it comes to women's health. We have a "one-size-fits-all" mentality when it comes to how long our cycles should be and that's just simply not the case. There are over a billion women on this earth and not two women's bodies are the same. While it may be perfectly normal for one woman to have a "textbook" 28-day cycle, it is just as normal (if not more so) for me to have a cycle that varies monthly from every 18 days to 38 days.

The 28 day cycle is so prevalent because it seems to be the most average among women, however, don't let it be confused as rule - it's just an average.

Now that we have established that any women can have a variety of cycle lengths and that it's perfectly normal, we need, however, need to examine when it might not be normal and what the potential causes may be. The good rule to go by is understanding what your normal cycle is. This can be done by tracking your menses over several months to establish your bodies pattern to cycle. Once this is established, it is far easier to determine when things happen/don't happen that are out of the ordinary.

Once you better understand how your very own cycle works and what is normal, it's much easier to determine when things are different - skipped periods, unusually heavy/light flows and spotting between cycles are the most common issues that women report. Luckily, they are also the easiest to diagnose and treat with a quick, simple trip to your gynecologist. It is important for every woman 16 and above to find a gynecologist that they trust and feel comfortable with. If a woman doesn't feel completely at ease with their physician, they are less likely to return for follow up visits such as annual check-ups and Pap Smears. This can cause vital women's health issues to go untreated and ultimately lead to hysterectomies and even cancers that could have been completely avoidable with proper early care by a trusted physician. ---- ----

Why am I having two periods in a month on birth control?

I had this happen to me also. I called my ob/gyn and found out I needed to be on a lower strength birth control. She changed my prescription and it's been fine every since.

When do girls get their periods?

Hi my name is Rachael and I am 13 I have not yet had my period ( thank god) but when you do don't wory about it you cant stop it (well when you 50 and up ot stops) but when you do get it it's just showing that you becoming a woman. And when you probabily get you wont want to tell your dad (I'm sure as hell not going to!) but if you don't want to tell him don't. but girls usually get their peirod when their 10 and up

Dont worie

- Um... Yea sorry to break it to you Rachael , but girls get their period before their ten. You can get it when you turn 8 as well. They usually start at 8 - 13.

Well, for me I have had my period when I was 12. I can't believe I had it for a second time and for me I had a lot of blood. Sorry, TMI.
In general, the puberty and the menstrual cycle are genetically and hormonally determined and different girls can have different development. In different countries periods are starting at 11 -17 (depending on physical development, hormones, genetics, country location, etc). It is very personal and pre-menstrual "signals" (strange discharges, breast tense, abdomen pain, etc.) can come 1-2 days or 2-3 months or 11-12 months in advance. Some girls don't have any pre-menstruation "signals". It depends how sensitive are you and how fast your hormones will jump up. Just don't be stressed because stress itself could make a delay. Everything has it's time. If you would not have your cycle up to 17 - better visit your doctor.

First period usually occurs about two years after your breasts develop and between 4 and 6 months after the growth of your pubic and underarm hair.

How do you tell your mom that you started your period?

There are many ways to tell your mom that you got your period. You can yell to her, leave wrappers where she can see them, put pads in the cart, or just come right out and tell her. When I got my period, I was so terrified that I started to cry. I was ten and at my friend's house when I got mine, so once I got in the car to go home, I just said it, got scared, and started balling. Then on the way home, she told me all about what to do. Overall, you should tell her because she will help you. remember, she went through it too.

Answer

Shes your mom, shes had it too, don't worry, maybe text her because I know some people find it hard to confront them, so maybe write her a note just saying there's some blood in my panties. when I started I was at a mates house, so I text my mom to tell her she rung me, she was fine about it, most moms are, it took me ages to send the text though but just go for it, if you've started try and go out or something and maybe pass it off as that you've started while you've been out so you can text her.

Answer

If you have a cell phone this will work. I text my mom when she was at work. I said "Hey mom, I kinda got my period." When I was heading to bed she said "This is all I have." and she handed me a pad. The next day she bought me a pack of tampons and pads. I just ran out so I text her "Hey mom, I need more girl stuff," because she said she was going to the store.

Answer

I was very, very scared to tell my parents because I was scared of my mom's reaction. So I did a little bit of research of what I should do on my period. Such as how to take care of it and in fact it went better then I thought. There are 2 options that you could use:

1. Write her a note. That is what I did and it was so easy. All it said was "Mom, I started my period at school today. But I took very good care of it"

2. The second option is to just tell her when no body else is around, like pull her aside for a minute when she is just watching television or even when she is folding the towels or something.

Whatever you do, you don't need to be afraid. It just puts more pressure on you. You will be ok and so will your parents.

Answer

I was scared to tell my mother too and I cried the day I got my first period (a few weeks ago) because I was so scared, but here is what I did (this only works if you have a cell phone or can borrow someone's cell phone): I text ed my mom, "Hey, I know this is going to sound weird but I started my period last night," I took her phone, placed it in front of her and left the room for a few minutes. I came back after a short while and my mother said, "Do you have pads?" I shook my head and she went out and bought pads and tampons for me. She was shouting at me earlier and then she was being nice to me. It turns out that while shopping for my pads and tampons, she saw one of my friends and found out that she had started a day after me... wow! Don't be afraid to tell your mom and don't worry, my mother said, "All girls go through this," I was glad that I told her and now I love inserting tampons but not wearing them weird.

Answer

If I were you just pull your mom into the isle where the have pad / tampons and pick one up and put it in the carriage. She'll get the idea and if not just say I need to pick up something...hey hope this helps this only works if you have a pad or tampon. I just went into the bathroom, put on the pad, walked out, and handed her the wrapper. She smiled and said "you started your period?" then she showed me everything and I felt much better. It is worth the plunge of the first words (or handing of wrapper ;) Your mom wants you to be close to her, and she will take care of your periods with you.

Answer

When I started my period I had no idea what was happening to me! I thought I was just having a weird stomach virus and that it would go away soon. My mom found out that it had started when she found the stains I wasn't able to get out. She laughed when I told her what I thought it was and explained what it really was to me. She was very easy going about it and she gave me some pads and tampons, and explained how to use them. She was glad to find out that I had started and was happy to help. So just tell her "Mom, I think I started my period, could you tell me what to do?" Its simple, and it may sound bold and scary, but its perfectly normal. Your Mom started at some point, and so did every woman in the world. They're all on your side telling your mum you started your periods are wayyy tough trust me I had the same problem.it was 2 years ago i was 12 and me my brother and my mother were in the house.

I went to the bathroom and realized that my period arrived, naturally I didn't want to tell my mother so I told my brother which by the way is harder than telling mums and he told her, if your close just wait till no-ones around then tell her face to face if not do how my sister did text her.or write a note or e-mail her like a close friend of mine did

Answer

this only works if you have a tampon or pad or can get one from a friend or her mum. just go to the bathroom and put on the pad or in the tampon, then come back out and hand her the wrapper. my mum smiled and showed me where everything was and talked to me about it. it made me feel comfortable. it can bring you and your mum closer together. First don't try to hide it, second try to get it where it is just you and your mom in the room so nothing comes in between. then just tell her upfront, don't be afraid just tell her. then after that try to ask her for some advice or ask her about like pads and tampons. You should get her on her own so you can tell her in confidence.

Answer

Make it short if you can, maybe by saying, Mum, I've started. Then look down.

She will know exactly what your talking about. Or if your not sure on what is going on or you want more information, tell her Iv'e started, but I don't know anything about it. She will tell you. And last of all, Don't be worried or scared. It's just change, it comes in all of us, If you want more help and advice, search women s health on the web.

I feel that I could answer your question if I knew if you had a good relationship with your mom or a bad one you might be embarrassed to because you might think they will say something like "oh my little baby is growing up" had a OK/medium relationship with my mom but I went outside to tell my mom and said "MOM I HAD MY THING" she instantly understood what I meant then she said "OK lets go get you some pads" then asked me what I knew about it

Answer

I was really scared to tell my mum when I started too! I was to embarrassed to tell her upfront so.. I tryed the texting idea. When she left to go shopping I text her a little while after saying "Mum, we have an emergency! I just got my period"

She text me back telling me to look for a pad around the house. ! She was really great and it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be! The only downside is that I had to go on holiday the next day and wasn't able to go in the pool.

Answer

I'm 13 and have recently had my first period. I was scared to tell my mum. I got really scared and started crying. It was getting darker and I really needed a pad or tampon so just had to tell her. I called mum over quietly when she was watching TV and I said to her I have just got my period she was very calm and OK about it, she went and got me a couple of her pads and tampons. She also stood outside of the toilet door and told me how to insert the tampon and where to put the pad.every month I get my period on the 8th and it goes four about five days. Sometimes even get excited when my periods arriving.

Answer

I'm 14 and had my first period yesterday I was just honest with my mum she was very understanding she had already bought all the stuff I need go on just be honest your mum it won't embarrass you.

Answer

Trust me, she won't be shocked or anything. If you're old enough she's probably expecting to have "the talk" with you anyway. Just try to not be too emotional about it. Easy, she's been expecting it for a while now, after all she does know all about periods. Try "Mom I've just started my periods"

Is a 60 day mentrual cycle normal?

Having a 60 day menstrual cycle can be "your normal", assuming you mean the entire cycle, not just the menstrating portion. To be sure, you should consult you OB/GYN.

On your period and spotting pink brown what does it mean?

There is a possibility for a positive pregnancy, however this is only speculation. To be sure, take the pregnancy test, it will give highly accurate results

You had two periods in one month but each were light and were dark brown with some blood are you pregnant?

Not neccessarily. Often your cycle adjusts itself to changes in your body. Some experience changes in the occurance if you have close contact with other women such as a roommate or sisters living together-even mothers and daughters will start to find they menstruate at the same times. Are you on the pill and have skipped or changed strength? Think about what stresses good or bad are going on. If you have been pretty regular it may just mean you are adjusting to a change in your body's timing.

Why can pregnancy leads to bleeding of 1 whole month?

Do you mean after the woman has had the baby? If you do, then after the woman has had the baby, she starts to bleed because she has a very built up lining of the uterus from where the baby has been growing. She needs to get rid of this now that the baby has been born and it is like a period, except heavier and longer

I am eleven days late I took a pregnancy test and it was negative What should i do next?

I myself am 9 days late as of today, I took a pregnancy test 2 days ago that was negative. It might just be too early for the test to catch it, or if you have been really stressed that can cause you to be really late, it's happened to me before. My advice, just don't go drinking or takin any meds that pregnant women shouldn't do, and wait a few days then take a new test, and if you can do it in the morning. Last time I got pregnant I was only a week late and I took 3 tests within like 5 days, first 2 were negative, the third one I took in the morning when I first went and it was positive.

Is it normal to have a period every 21 days?

Is 37 day cycle is a normal period or irregular?

Depends...per WebMD (http://women.webmd.com/tc/normal-menstrual-cycle-normal-menstrual-cycle), "The menstrual cycle is measured from the first day of menstrual bleeding, Day 1, up to Day 1 of your next menstrual bleeding. Although 28 days is often cited as the "regular" cycle length, only 15% of women actually have such a cycle." * A teen's cycles tend to be long (up to 45 days), growing shorter over several years. * Between ages 25 and 35, most women's cycles are regular, generally lasting 21 to 35 days. * Around ages 40 to 42, cycles tend to be the shortest and most regular. This is followed by 8 to 10 years of longer, less predictable cycles until menopause.

Does having a menstrual cycle every month mean you are fertile or ovulating?

Ovulating Ovulating not necessarily. It should, but even if you are infertile your body will go through the motions of ovulating. Technically you ovulate, then you shed the uterus lining (your Period). You are supposed to drop your egg. If the egg gets fertilized it stays put and you don't get your period. If you are infertile, you do everything but drop the egg.

Do women ovulate every month with one ovary?

Yes.

That's the usual way of things, however there are times when both ovaries give up an egg. This is the origin of fraternal twins. Sometimes neither ovary produces, just take a month off. Under the influence of fertility drugs as much as a dozen eggs can be produced in a given month.

Why would your period be black and stringy?

These are just normal variations of heavy flow. But if you are sexually active, a pregnancy test will be positive for 2 weeks if it was a miscarriage.

If you start a pill pack late then will you still ovulate?

Some pill packs come with a 5/6/7 day placebo pill during which your body will both undergo "withdrawal bleeds" and prepare the ovaries for ovulation. In the absence of the birth control hormones, that is the body's natural response. If a missed/late pill is at the end or beginning of the placebo tablets, the amount of time the ovaries have to ovulate is increased, and thusly your odds of ovulating are increased. However, the chances of ovulation are slim with only one late or missed pill. Always follow the use instructions included with the information packet you receive with your prescription, and always use a second form of contraception if you aren't positive you've been effectively using your birth control.
