Why does menstruation stop during pregnancy?
Menstruation stops during pregnancy for a couple of reasons. First, the hormones that the corpus luteum (the place on the ovary where the egg came from) secretes include progesterone which stops the follicle stimulating hormone. Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) is what makes your ovary grow eggs and it stops because of the progesterone. Second, when the follicle stimulating hormone is not present, a new egg will not grow. Without a new egg to grow, ovulation will not occur and progesterone will not drop so your lining will stay put until you give birth.

Sounds like a yeast infection mixed with a bit of menstrual blood or blood from the irritation of the yeast. Lotrimin and other over the counter medications for yeast can be effective and should stop the itching within 24 hours. Even though the sympotoms stop within 24 hours, you must complete the entire dosing schedule or it will return. Eatting yogurt will promote the return of the right bacteria and help prevent the return of the yeast. If you can't tolerate milk, acidophyllius pills 2 tab three times a day (see label) will work also.

How late can you ovulate in a cycle?
I have read from many online sources that you can expect to have ovulated from between 10-16 days before your next period starts. Since you can only get pregnant within a small window of time after ovulation (between 12-36 hours) this question is all dependent on how long your cycle is, how regular you are etc. If you have the standard 28 day cycle, you could ovulate anywhere between cycle days 12-18 (if my math is correct) but this could vary greatly if your cycle is longer. Basically subtract 16 days from your standard cycle length to get the soonest you could have ovulated and 10 days to get the latest you could have ovulated.
Will you get a period if you didn't ovulate?
No, not quite.
Menstruation is a very specific function, you will only menstruate if you have ovulated. You can however see vaginal bleeding for other reasons, you can get bleeding that is very much like menstruation and unless you're monitoring your fertility you wouldn't know any different.
There is then of course withdrawal bleeding that you get on hormonal birth control, you don't ovulate with most forms of hormonal birth control but you get a menstrual-like bleed as a result of the drop in synthetic hormones when going from active to inactive pills.

If you are still young and have only just started you periods, it is nothing to worry about and is normal as your hormones are still regulating. If you have had regular periods in the past, it is important to go and see your doctor or gynaecologist. The chances are that it is nothing serious, but it's best to get checked out sooner rather than later. If you have never had regular periods, but have been having periods for a couple of years, it's also important to go and speak to your doctor, for the same reasons.
