Menstruation

Menstruation is the routine discharge, or release, of blood and mucosal tissue from the uterus. This process occurs about once a month from the time a female reaches puberty until menopause. During pregnancy, the monthly menstrual cycle is absent while the womb nourishes the growing fetus.

Can you dance while you have your period?

Yes, you can dance while you have your period - there is absolutely nothing that you can't do during your period, and light exercise like dance can help ease menstrual cramps if you do get menstrual cramps.

You might prefer to use internal options like tampons, sponges, menstrual cups, or softcups as it's easier to move about with these rather than pads - menstrual cups are the best option as they don't increase cramps like tampons can, unlike tampons they can be worn even with light flow, and also menstrual cups don't leak like other options so you can feel more secure.

If you're a pad user then you might want to consider cloth pads which are more comfortable than disposable pads so they won't make you as sweaty as you dance or rub on your skin like plastic on disposables can, thus better when active. Team-up with period underwear which have leak-proof lining, or if you're wearing a leotard try pad period underwear with pads built-in so you can wear pads without anything showing under your costume.

If your cycle is longer then 35 days when are you fertile?

Yes. Hardly any women these days have perfectly regular cycles. You'd just have to find out when you ovulate which can be accomplished even with a cheap ovulation test kit basically if you are generally healthy.

If you missed 2 periods while on birth control what does this mean?

Um... well, you could be pregnant. Consider a home Pregnancy test. But, if you have not been having intercourse, there are different possibilities.

If you have just started your period in the past 1-2 years, it's normal. Don't freak.

Your body is just trying to adjust to the changes and stabilize itself.

Also, you may be working yourself too hard. If you relax and stop stressing, your period will come.

This works out because your body is using a lot of it's blood and energy to keep up with you, so there's not a lot left to contribute to a full on period.

So Relax, Take it easy, and eat healthily. Enjoy life and all the little things it has to offer.

Hope I helped!!!!

Brownish discharge one week after period and stopping birth control pills?

Usually brown discharge after your period is just old blood, your body is cleaning itself out from the last period. Don't worry about it, but if you still feel uncomfortable, talk to your doctor, because he/she knows best. :)

When does ovulation occur during the menstrual cycle in a normal healthy woman?

Ovulation will typically occur two weeks prior to menstruation - or day 14 during the average 28 day cycle - however unless you use a birth control method such as Fertility Awareness Method to track your fertility day-to-day you have no way of accurately determining when you are ovulating.

Does every woman have a period?

No, not every woman has a menstrual cycle.

Most healthy adult cis-women will menstruate, however women who have reached menopause will no longer have a menstrual cycle, nor will women who have had a hysterectomy - basically women who are no longer fertile. Women who use hormonal birth control don't have a menstrual cycle, as the purpose of hormonal birth control is to suppress the menstrual cycle so they don't ovulate - the bleeding women get is a withdrawal bleed, it mimics menstruation but isn't the same as menstruation.

Many women were born biologically male, thus regardless of changes to their gender or genital reassignment surgery to change their sex, they are not capable of ovulation and thus don't have a menstrual cycle - although interestingly hormones given to many transsexual women can create symptoms similar to that of the menstrual cycle.

On average how long is the human menstrual cycle?

The average number of days in the cycle is 28 days. Some women have longer or shorter so it depends on the woman. Mine was always between 35-38 days and birth control pills helped me manage the cycle to a 28 day.

How often does a woman ovulate?

A woman will ovulate one day per menstrual cycle - although she may ovulate twice within that time frame, normally one egg from each ovary if this does occur. Ovulation only occurs over a 24 hour period, with each egg only being viable for 24 hours, so at most (if multiple eggs are released) there is only a viable egg for 48 hours maximum - this is fairly uncommon, most women only release one egg.

Once progesterone decreases what happens to the lining of the uterus?

The uterus lining sheds - the natural progesterone drop is what triggers menstruation, and the progesterone drop when women go from active to inactive birth control pills is what triggers withdrawal bleeding.

What could cause two periods in one month?

*Pregnancy. * Irregular period. * Hormonal imbalance.

Can you use the bathroom with a tampon in?

Yes, you can use the bathroom while you're using a tampon.

A tampon goes into your vagina, if you're using the bathroom either you're urinating which comes out of your urethra or you are making a bowl movement which comes out of your anus. They all involve different holes in your body so wearing a tampon has no impact on whether you can go to the bathroom. It is important if using tampons with a string to move the string out of the way so that it doesn't get wet or dirty, which can be uncomfortable and unhygienic.

Should you exercise when you are menstruating?

you can lose weight, but as your body retains water during your period the weight losswill not become apparent when you weigh yourself on the scale until your period is over and your body stops retaining water

What is the Diva Cup used for?

Once you have your menstrual cup - it's best to do a little research to ensure you get the best brand to suit your body and needs, also be sure to get the correct size - remember that for some women it can take a little practice to learn to use a menstrual cup correctly so be paitent when first attempting to insert your cup.

Menstrual cups can be worn before menstruation, however at first it's best to attempt to insert during menstruation as blood gives more lubrication and your cervix will be in the position it will be in during menstruation. If worried about mess try inserting in the shower - it's best to try using cups in the bathroom where you have privacy and can clean-up.

Make sure you know where your vaginal opening is located (check online sites such as Scarleteen if unsure), it helps when inserting menstrual cups for you to know your anatomy well and be comfortable with vaginal penetration - this makes it easier and more comfortable. It also helps to check your cervix, the opening to your uterus located at the top of your vaginal canal that feels like a firm ball, you need to position your cup under your cervix - if your cervix is too high up to feel then chances are your cervix position won't be a problem.

Wash your hands well before insertion, also wash your cup if this is your first time using it - just use soap and water, but be sure to rinse well. Get yourself into a comfortable position and relax - if you're tense vaginal muscles will tense, this makes vaginal walls clench together so it is more difficult to insert anything vaginally.

When ready fold your cup - there are different folding methods, your cups instructions should show you at least one way to fold your cup but also look online for more folding techniques. With your other hand hold open your labia for easier access to the vaginal opening and when ready insert the cup while keeping it folded. Insert the cup as far as possible aiming towards the small of your back - once fully inserted allow it to pop open.

Once open and in place check to make sure it is fully open by running a finger around the cup, or turn it to both check it's open and create a seal to prevent leaking. Once in place it can be worn for up to 12 hours without any health risk or leaking, unless your flow is very heavy.

Why menstrual blood is not clotted?

Menstrual blood doesn't clot like other blood because if it did it would be detrimental to the whole process of the uterine lining shedding. The 'clots' people talk about in menstrual flow are normally larger chunks of the uterine lining, normal during heavier flow days.

How soon can you use tampons after giving birth?

If by delivery you mean childbirth, you need to wait at least one month before using tampons. It's also important to only use tampons when you know your flow pattern, for the first few months after childbirth flow patterns can be erratic so you risk using too high an absorbency if not careful.

Do woman always have the same menstrual cycles every time of the month?

Yes they do. Stress is one factor (even in young women) when they can miss a period, spot, or have a later period in the month. From the age of 35 up women can start to see hormone changes (erratic periods) and their body is preparing to go into perimenopause. Approximately around 50 years old (could be earlier .. was with me) women go through menopause where their periods cease for good. It's all about hormones.

Why menstrual blood do not clot?

Menstrual blood has fewer platelets than normal blood because if it was to clot it would be detrimental to the process. If menstrual blood were to clot like normal blood it would inhibit the blood leaving the uterus.

Why does your period stop when you get in the shower?

It doesn't, when you step into the shower, all the blood is washed from the outside of your vagina but not the inside. You still have your period.
