well if you do start your discharge then you will obviously start your period. I personally hav been having my discharge for 2 years but still haven't started my period.

It could be several things. It could be the beginnings of your period, implantation bleeding, infection, unexplained bleeding in pregnancy, or loss of mucus plug if in advanced pregnancy.

I've been looking this up online today and there are several forums where women with very heavy periods say that they use them, particularly overnight where with any other product they would be up to change several times in the night or staining the sheets.

Poise, maker of products similar to Depends, says that their product is 3x more absorbent than menstrual pads, so would be a great choice to use for periods.

I am now 43 and have always worn a traditional sanitary belt since I started my periods. Although they are more hassle than 'modern' pads I think they are a lot better for the environment, if you think of just how many pads a woman will use through her life. I guess the main drawback is that they are a little more bulky than a modern pad so really should be worn with a skirt or dress only. When my daughter started her periods, I gave her the choice of pads or a belt and after some time with both she now mostly wears a belt, but I think most of her friends have probably not even seen a sanitary belt.
