What are th base units in the metric unit and what do they measure?

The SI, or metric, system is devided into two sets of units; base units and derived units. The base units are used to define all other units. There are seven base units.

metre, m. length.

kilogram, kg, mass.

second, s, time.

ampere, A, electrical current.

kelvin,K, temperature.

candela, cd, luminous intensity.

mole, mol, amount of substance.

What is si unit of frequency?

The SI Unit for frequency is the hertz also known as an inverted second denoted by s-1.

What was the name of the act that made the metric system legal in the us?

The use of the metric system made legal in the United States by the Metric Act of 1866 (Public Law 39-183). This law made it unlawful to refuse to trade or deal in metric quantities.

What are the seven base units in the SI unit system?

They are

  • Length: Metre
  • Mass: Kilogram
  • Time: Second
  • Electric Current: Ampere
  • Temperature: Kelvin
  • Luminosity: Candela
  • Amount of a Substance: Mole

Is the the metric system is based on multiples of 100?

The Metric system is based on the number 10 and its multiples, which includes numbers like 100, 1,000, 10,000, etc.

What is better to fill a fish tank 80 liters or 80 militers?

80 liters will fill a good sized fish tank [about 21 gal]. 80 milliliters would hardly start, as that is about 5 tablespoons.

Units of length in the metric system?

The unit of length in the metric system is the meter (m); many derivatives are also used: kilometer, centimeter, micrometer, nanometer, etc.

Why do you have the metric system?

so we can measure your head

================

Because it's easier to use. Every unit is divisible by 10. It's designed for used with the decimal point. The last I heard, there are only 3 countries (U.S., Liberia, and Burma) in the world that don't use the Metric system. It is used exclusively in science because of the fact it is easier to use. Even the U.S. uses the metric system in science and medicine.

Why did the whole world decide to use the same metric system?

The USA does NOT use the metris system, but the rest of the world decided to use one system to make it easier on everyone, so that they didn't have to change units when they moved between countries. I have no idea why the USA didn't.

What is average speed SI unit?

Since length is measured in meters, and time in seconds, it follows that speed is measured in meters/second.

What is the metric term for 100 kilometers?

The base unit of distance is the metre, this means all distances are measured in metres. For distances less than a metre, prefixes are used which indicate fractions of a metre; 1 millimetre is 0.001 metres, 1 micrometre is 0.000 001 metres, 1 nanometre is 0.000 000 001 metres.

For distances greater than a metre, prefixes that indicate multiples of metres are used; 1 kilometre is 1 000 metres, 1 megametre is 1 000 000 metres, 1 gigametre is 1 000 000 000 metres. In practice the prefixes above kilometre are rarely used outside of technical papers.

100 kilometres are 100 000 metres, this could be expressed as 0.1 megametres (0.1 Mm), but would usually be written as 100 km (kilometres).

Note: the symbol for mega- (million) is an uppercase M, the symbol for milli- (thousandth) is a lowercase m.

One hundredth of a metric gram?

One hundredth of a gram is 10 milligrams.

The SI unit of electric current is?

The SI unit of electric current is the ampere. While it is an SI base unit, it can also be considered to be a combined unit, coulombs per second.

How many kilogram makes a g?

None. A gram is a smaller unit of measurement: Grams,Ounces,Pounds,Kilograms (Least to Greatest)

one thousandth kg = g = 0.001 kg

What was the name of the metric system of measurements?

imperial system

* * * * *

The Metric and Imperial systems are alternative systems!

The metric system is properly known as the International System of Units, abbreviated, from its French name: Système international d'unités to SI units.

What advantages does the metric system have over the English method of measurement?

The English system is based on arbitrary numbers and measurements, such as 12, 36, and 5,280. The Metric system - every aspect of it - is based on even multiples of ten, both going upward, and going downward. Just ten. Nothing else.
