No, you do not have to pay to create a faction in order to create one, unless the server admins configure the plugin that way (which I have seen first hand). Then, simply type:

/f create (faction name)

then you type /f desc ( ) to make a description for you'r faction.

When this happens it could be a number of things, either you could have a problem with the demo itself where you may not have activated your account or it has run out or it could be a java error. To fix the java error I recommend simply installing the latest version.

Try pressing the 'TAB' button located on the far left of your keyboard. It will list all players online the Minecraft server. If the server has '/tpa' (allows players to request a teleportation to the targeted player. Example: /tpa Nyrd64) then you may be able to find them that way. Another way is to press 'F3' and tell your friends your coordinates or vice versa.

No. Better than Wolves does not use the Forge API anymore, which renders it incompatible with most other major mods.

Anyway, industrialcraft does not fit in very well with Better than Wolves. If you were to play the two mods alongside each other, you'd find that it would make the gameplay completely unbalanced.
