What is the effect of the arrival of the missionaries in mbanta?
The arrival of missionaries in Mbanta significantly disrupts traditional Igbo society, leading to both cultural conflict and transformation. They introduce Christianity, which challenges existing beliefs and practices, causing divisions within families and the community. While some individuals embrace the new faith and find a sense of belonging, others resist, leading to tensions and a gradual erosion of traditional customs. Ultimately, the missionaries’ presence catalyzes profound changes in social structures and individual identities within Mbanta.
How many missionaries (religious or not) die from disease and sickness per year?
It is difficult to provide an exact number of missionaries who die from disease and sickness each year, as comprehensive statistics are not consistently tracked. However, estimates suggest that several hundred missionaries may face serious health issues annually, with a smaller number succumbing to diseases, particularly in regions with limited healthcare access. Factors such as location, health precautions, and the nature of their work significantly influence these outcomes.
What are the disadvantages of roles taken by a missionary?
Missionaries can sometimes impose their beliefs on local cultures, leading to loss of indigenous traditions and practices. Their presence may foster dependency on foreign aid rather than encouraging self-sufficiency within communities. Additionally, missionary activities can create divisions or tensions among different religious or social groups. Lastly, the focus on conversion can overshadow other critical aspects of community development, such as health and education.
Jonathan Edwards is most closely associated with which movement in US History?
The Great Awakening, New Light Calvinism, Congregationalism
I suppose you could say that for just about all Paul's epistles, as they show us that 'The just shall live by faith'.
The doctrine of justification by faith is complex if we allow it to be, but the Holy Ghost makes it simple and easy to be understood, no matter from which Scripture it comes.
Why do Mormons have to travel on overseas missions?
They don't. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) are encouraged to go on missions, but a mission is not required. Most Mormon missionaries are single young adults between 19 and 27 years old or retired adults. Missionaries are not required to go overseas, in fact, they usually serve in their home countries.
When a Mormon decides to serve a mission, they submit an application to Church headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah. Several weeks later, they will receive a letter informing them when and where they will serve. Most of the time, missionaries will be called to another area of their home country or to a neighboring country. This is usually most effective, because they will have the language and culture in common with those they are teaching. However, missionaries are called wherever there is need, and often there is need for missionaries in a country that simply can't supply enough missionaries. This is especially common for missionaries from the United States. Over half of Mormon missionaries are from the United States, but most Mormon missionaries serve outside of the United States. Serving in another country enables young people to develop and appreciation for other cultures as well as recognize the condition of those who are less fortunate than themselves.
As for why Mormons serve missions, the first reason is that Jesus commands "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." (Mark 16:15) Mormons desire to follow the commandments of Jesus Christ, and travelling the world to preach the gospel is one of these commandments. In addition, by teaching and assisting others and giving years of selfless service, missionaries strengthen their own faith and form a unique relationship with God. Spending years away from the trends and popular things of the 'world' allows missionaries to come home with a better perspective of what is important in life. Young adult missionaries also often come home much better prepared for family and career than their peers since they develop service, discipline, responsibility, leadership, and goal-setting habits.

What do you get a lds missionary for Christmas?
Well, I'm sure they would like advice. You might just want to send them something they really want or need with a heart-felt card and good advice. They would love to know that they're appreciated and loved and that they are in your prayers. Often times it is very hard for them to find someone who is willing to listen or find someone who might have a change of heart because of his/her troubles. So you might want to quote or say some thing like "200 lds missionaries every day find someone who needs their help after months of searching" or "50 missionaries come home every 8 months discouraged when if they stayed for only 3 more days they would have found a possible lds" or give them lots more encouragement.
I am quite sure this will help.
Thanks,
M_tiger.
Find something they don't have where he is. I'm sure he's written home lamenting his lack of peanut butter, deodorant, or root beer, so ask his mother what he's written about. Those listed before are standards. My parents sent me an 18" synthetic Christmas tree--something I could use and still leave in the closet for future missionaries. Also, newspapers from home. (I would always get big care packages, and go straight for the crumpled up newspapers used as packaging fodder.) Just remember to keep your gifts within his rules--he may not be allowed to use a video camera, for example. Feel free to call his Mission President with specific questions. Oh, and if you're referring to Senior Missionaries, they don't have rules really. My parents always asked for, and got, seasons of West Wing and other shows. --User:Mrcolj14:27, 2 Sep 2009 (UTC)
Who was the first missionary to Wisconsin?
There were Society of Jesus missionaries in French Quebec between 1625 and 1665, during the time (1634) that Jean Nicollet came in contact with the native tribes of Wisconsin. Some missions may have preceded those of Father Jacques Marquette in 1668, who established a mission near present-day Ashland.
Did missionaries live in circh?
Yes, missionaries often lived in churches or nearby facilities as part of their work in spreading their faith and providing services to communities. Was Gladys Aylward a missionary?
Yes, she was. She wanted to become a missionary and went to a school to become one and was told she wasn't qualified. She told herself no one can tell her if she were qualified or not. She wanted to go to China and heard of a 73-yr. old missionary woman who needed help. She went to be her helper and soon became a blessing to China.
