How would the period of a simple pendulum be changed if the pendulum were moved from sea level to the sun?

As the other contributor mentioned, the standard formula for the period (T) of a simple pendulum is

T = 2*pi*sqrt(L/g)

so the period is inversely proportional to the square root of acceleration 'g'. But for practical purposes (as implied by the question) we can replace 'g' with another value, the apparent acceleration due to gravity, 'ga'. This value also takes into account the rotational speed and the distance from the center of the gravitational mass

ga = GM/r**2 - (w**2)*cos(LAT)

where:

w = angular velocity of the earth's rotation

= 2*pi/(24*3600) [rad/s]

LAT = observer's latitude (0=equator, 90deg=pole)

G = universal gravitation constant

M, r = mass, radius of planet/satellite/star we are on

Thus, the period of a simple pendulum is inversely proportional to to the sqare root of 'ga'. And this value varies with latitude, mass and distance.

So then let's answer the questions!

a) as we increase the height from sea level, the radius increases, reducing the 'ga' and this increases the period, T

b) as we go to the pole, LAT = 90deg, and cos(LAT) goes to zero. We thus INCREASE 'ga' and decrease the period

c) at the equator, LAT = 0 and cos(LAT) = 1, so we have a minimum value for 'ga', this increases the period

d) on the moon, our rotational velocity is much less (1 rev per 27.3 days) and the M is much smaller, and the r is much smaller! We are told that the 'ga' will be about 1/6 of the Earth's value, so the period will increase.

e) Here the M is colossal, so if we could withstand the heat and gravitational forces, 'ga' is much larger, so period will decrease.

How hard is it to put a 351 in place of a 302 on a 1991 f150?

it will fall right inYou will have to modify the exhaust to match the manifolds, and if you do not use the electrical harness from your 302, you need to make sure to swap the engine computer. The 352 does not use a pressure sensor on the power steering pump and will cause the check engine light to come on. You can splice the connector from the 302 harness into the vehicle wiring, the 351 harness does not have the pins on it's side of the harness.

The highest mountian in the world?

The highest mountain in the world is defiantly Mount Everest.

Who is the youngest person to climb ben nevis?

No idea if Kieran DS is the youngest person to do the winter assent of Ben Nevis, but aged 7 and 1 month he went up to the summit in February 2009. We took the Mountain Track to the summit ( and helped a lost adult called Hussain in the assent ).

Then with junior ice axe in hand, he glissaded over 1000m down Red Burn. saying "Dad, that's the best fun I've had in my life - ever!".

The day before he traversed Devil's Ridge on the Mamores (part of the Ring of Steall) and summitted on Sgurr a' Mhaim - his first 4000 foot peak.

He's off to play around and on Mont Blanc in August 2009.

Aged 6 and 3 months he did 11 of the Welsh 3000 footers in his first long weekend of mountaineering.

---------------------------------------------New entry------------------------------------------------

My 5 year old boy Jay Dickson climbed ben nevis on 15th July 2009, he went up unaided apart from some encouraging words from myself and his mother and his older sister aged 9, very proud of him, it took 9 hours and 20 mins start to finish with a short picnic break at the top. He enjoyed playing in the snow at the top! I wonder if this answers the question.

Last year aged four he climbed Goatfell in Arran, Scotland.

New Entry

My daughter Olivia was just turned 4years old when she marched herself to the summit of Ben Nevis having climbing to the summit of Snowdon the previous day. She achieved this completely unaided but had lots of encouragement from passers by and everyone enjoying the same experience.

previously at 3 years old she climbed Scafell pike (Lake District) and has thoroughly enjoyed climbing all three of the highest peaks.

New Entry - 25 August 2014

My grandson, Lucas Mazella, climbed Ben Nevis, totally unaided on 25 August 2014, aged 4yrs, 4mths and 21 days. It took him and the Templine team 9hrs in total and they raised over £500 for diabetes 1 charity. Lucas' Mom suffers from tendonitis in her knees and had to abort her mission when her knees collapsed, but Lucas was not to be detered and continued his quest, joining people he barely knew to successfully stand at the top of Ben Nevis.

What planning did sir edmond Hillary need to do to reach the summit of Mt. Everest?

It took a lot of planning for Hillary and Tenzing to reach the summit of Mount Everest. They took with them on their climb all the facts and mistakes of the climbs from the 1920's and 1930's. Tenzing also had some knowledge of Mount Everest as he was on it in 1952 with a Swiss team.

If the moon can go as far north as 28.5 degrees north or south during the major lunar standstill - does that mean the moon can be almost directly overhead when viewed from the summit of Mount Everest?

On my map, the summit of Mt. Everest is marked at latitude 29° North. So the moon could

come within about 1/2 degree of directly overhead there, but not quite all the way.

I suspect, though, that a person standing at the summit of Mt. Everest has more important

things to worry about than measuring the elevation of the moon.

Who was the first black to climb Everest?

Sibusiso Vilane reached the summit of Mount Everest on the 26th May 2003 and became the first black man to do so.

Sophia Danenberg reached the summit of Mount Everest on the 19th May 2006 and became the first black woman to do so.

Where does deers live in mt everest?

There are no deer living on Mount Everest.

What is the pressure at the top of Everest?

The air pressure at the top of Mount Everest is low pressure. At high altitudes, such as on Mount Everest there is less air above you. This means that the density and pressure of air decreases as altitude increases. Each intake of air on Mount Everest has only one-third of the gas molecules-including oxygen-that would be present at sea level.

When was Mount Cameroon F.C. created?

Mount Cameroon F.C. was created in 1997.

How Mount Everest was made?

It is thought that the summit of Mount Everest started at the bottom of the ancient Tethys Sea, the motion of the Indian sub continental plate and the urasian continental plate colliding, about 30 - 50 million years ago, caused the mountain to rise up and become the highest mountain on the Earth.
