Get tcpview and then you can see what the programs are that are making those connections. Then google the .exe and see what they are

In my case Autoexec.nt was missing from the C:\WINNT\System32 directory. Looking in the C:\WINNT\Repair directory I found that Windows had automatically made a backup copy of Autoexec.nt, so I just copied this into C:\WINNT\System32 and the problem was fixed.

Some people would say that it's because it was made by Microsoft, and as you know most of Microsoft products lack functionality compared to others(Windows, MS-DOS, NTFS, etc.)

You probably don't have enough lower memory free. Make sure you have DOS loaded high, and that any necessary memory managers to make additional memory (such as EMM386 and HIMEM) are loaded.

Standard DOS does not have any networking software, so by itself there is no way to connect to a network, let alone a server 2003 system. You would have to buy networking software that runs under DOS to get to the network.

Actually asterix is also a so called wildcard character in MS-DOS. It replaces a whole series of characters related to file name, extension or both.

For example, if you want to delete all files named "list" from a current directory (no matter what type those files are) use the following command:

del list.*

DOS is well-suited for older computers that are not powerful enough to run a modern operating system such as Linux or Windows. If you have a modern PC, DOS programs can be run with DOSBox.

In traditional System V init systems, that'd be runlevel 1 or "single user mode." This should only be used in emergencies where normal boot is not working at all.

In an MS-DOS filename, you may have up to 8 characters followed by a filename extension (eg. .txt, .doc, .bmp) with up to 3 characters separated by a period. In the filename, you may not use the following characters:
