Nerves

Nerves are thread-like structures that form a network of pathways that transmit information from the brain to the body and the body to the brain, in the form of electrical impulses.

Why do humans possess a mixture of axons some large diameter heavily myelinated axons and some small diameter relatively unmyelinated axons?

The mixture of axon types contributes to variety of responses generated. Specifically, the rate with which a response is made can vary.

Why superficial reflexes are lost in upper motor neuron lesion?

because the superficial reflex fibres also come through the umn fibres along with it

How do sensory neurons function?

sensory neuron har two part one is connect receptor which take al body sensory information and than neuron aftr that tract and finaly brain in relatd centr aftr that motor reaction occur this reaction occur in apathway.

What is the reflex action when someone touches a hot pan?

They quickly move their hand or arm, and scream 'aarrrgghhh!!!'

Or someone clever would go to the tap and immeidately run their hand or arm under cold water, until the pain starts to go away. This is to prevent any swelling or burns

What nerve innervates the muscle for tight closure of the eyelids?

The facial or 7th crainial nerve. If you have Bell's palsey, (CN 7 palsey) one side of your face will have problems closing your eye and controling that whole side of your face.

Do neurons touch?

No. There is a synaptic cleft between the axon of one neuron and the dendrite of another neuron. At the synapse, a chemical messenger is needed - in order to carry the "message" from one nerve to the next, whereupon electrical transmission once again occurs (via depolarization and then repolarization).

Spontaneous firing rate of a neuron?

a periodic production of action potentials even without synaptic input

How are these extra synapses handled?

They are eliminated when they are not used.

Flattening of the left ventral aspect of the cervical cord at C5-C6?

I do not know how Vitamin C could cause back pain. Vitamin C advocates state that it is is helpful in preventing and healing soft tissue injuries to the back including disc herniation. They also claimed that it helps prevent and cure kidney stones and various other kidney problems. Others state that Vitamin C claims are not supported by proper studies but they do not say that it is actually harmful.

this is in answer to a question regarding whether Vitimin C can cause back pain. It became appended to the wrong question and I could not delete.

Where are T1-12 nerves?

T1-12. These nerves enter from the thoracic or chest vertebrae.

What are the sites where the motor nerve impulse is transmitted from the nerve endings to the skeletal muscle cell membrane?

Neuromuscular Junctions

How does heroin affect the Synapse?

In a regular nerve synapse, not exposed to any antigens and in a healthy body, inhibitory, or preventative, neurotransmitters are released constantly to prevent the release of dopamine (<----neurotransmitters), a natural painkiller(or mood-lifter). When the body is severely damaged or injured, natural opiates are released and travel to the inhibitory neurotransmitters. When the opiates arrive at the inhibitory neurotransmitters, they enter the opiate receptors. Once this occurs, the dopamine neurotransmitters can be released and travel to dopamine receptors, to travel through neurons to the rest of the body.

Once heroin is brought into the body, people feel a short, but immediate, high. The heroin simulates natural opiates. The heroin travels through the body to the inhibitory neurotransmitters and to the opiate receptors. Once the body has received the heroin, the inhibitory neurotransmitters are no longer released, at least until the heroin wears off. The dopamine is now released and the drug user feels a high from the effects of the dopamine.

There is a great source that explains not only the effects of heroin on the synapse, but several other drugs too.

What action does the femoral nerve do?

Nerves do not have actions. Muscles do, but nerves go to certain receptors. The femoral nerve is the largest in the lumbar plexus and divides into many branches, and supplies the thigh muscles and leg and skin cutaneous receptors (feeling).

It is the membrane potential of a neuron at rest?

Yes,the membrane potential of a neuron is at rest because it is the difference in electrical charge between inside and outside a resting neuron.

What are the parts of nervous system of prawn?

Prawn or shrimp is the common name of Dendrobranchiata. Its nervous system consists of dorsal and ventral nerve cord connected around esophagus.

What is the length of auditory nerve?

in the adult (probably male) human it is approx 2.6 centimeter, as stated in "Auditory evoked potentials" By Robert F. Burkard, Jos J. Eggermont, Manuel Don (see google books).
