The event was first held in 1930 under the title of the British Empire Games in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Between 1930 and 1950, they continued to be known as the British Empire Games. They were named the British Empire and Commonwealth Games between 1954 and 1966. In 1970 and 1974, they were the British Commonwealth Games, finally becoming the Commonwealth Games in 1978.
The first Commonwealth Games were held in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 1930.

St. Louis, Missouri was the first US city to host the Olympics. It took place in 1904 and was the third Olympics.

At the London 2012 Olympic the USA won 46 Gold Medals China won 38 and Great Britain won 29

At the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing, China won the most gold medals with 51. The United States was second with 36 and Russia was third with 23.

For all Summer Olympics, the United States has won the most gold medals with 930. he total increased to 975 after the 2012 Olympics. The former Soviet Union is second with 395 and Great Britain is third with 207. Great Britain total increased to 236 after the 2012 Olympics and dropped to 4th because China increased it's total from 201 and 5th position to 239 becoming 3rd on the list of total Gold Medals won.

Through the 2006 Games in Turin, none. Australia has won 3 gold medals at the Winter Games, all in individual events (2 in freestyle skiing and 1 in short track speed skating). Australia has won a bronze medal in a team event, that being the men's 5,000 meter short track speed skating relay at the 1994 Games in Lillehammer.

The first time the Summer Olympics were in London was in 1908. The second time was in 1948. London is the only city to have hosted the modern Summer Olympics three times, and the United Kingdom is one of only two countries that has hosted more than two modern Summer Olympics to date (the other is the United States, which has hosted four).

That was the 1952 Games in Helsinki when she won gold with a jump of 6.24 meters. Williams became the first woman from New Zealand to win an Olympic gold medal. In 1954, at Gisborne, she set a new world record with a jump of 6.29m, which she held for 18months (Both 1954 and 1955) before it was beaten.

The UK has hosted the olympics Olympic Games in 1908, 1948 and 2012. The 2012 Summer Olympics made London (also called the London Olympics) the first city to have hosted the modern Games of three Olympiads. The games have never been held as one of the Principality countries of the UK solely

The Winter Olympic games have not been held in UK

Swimmer Dara Torres of the United States who won 2 gold medals (4x100 freestyle relay and 4x100 medley relay) and 3 bronze medals (100 meter butterfly, 50 meter freestyle, 100 meter freestyle).

At Grenoble, France Peggy Fleming won the Women's figure skating gold.

The USA hockey team did. They beat the Soviet union. That was the miracle on ice. Then they went on and beat Finland and a bunch of other teams to get the gold medal.
