What is the relationship between the Greeks and the ottoman empire?

The Ottoman Empire conquered Greece in the 1300s and 1400s and Greece only broke free in a century of wars from 1821 until 1923. During those roughly five centuries of occupation, Greek culture and religion (Greek Orthodox Christianity) were sublimated and repressed. As a result, Greek Independence was mainly cast as a revolt against Ottoman identity, culture, and religion, creating a high degree of antagonism between Greeks and Turks (the dominant Ottoman ethnic group). The last two decades of the wars between the Greeks and Turks resulted in the Pontic Greek Genocide, where Turks murdered 500,000 Greeks who lived in Anatolia, and a number of Greek massacres of Turks, especially near Smyrna (modern-day Izmir).

How did Ze'ev Jabotinsky help the British beat the Ottomans?

Ze'ev Jabotinsky was a right-wing nationalist who firmly believed in the Jewish right (and necessity) of self defense. Therefore, during World War I, he conceived the idea of establishing a Jewish Legion to fight alongside the British against the Ottomans who then controlled Palestine. In 1915, together with Joseph Trumpeldor he created the Zion Mule Corps, which consisted of several hundred Jewish men, mainly Russians, who had been exiled from Palestine by the Turks and had settled in Egypt. These Zion Mule Corps were eventually disbanded but not before serving with distinction in the Battle of Gallipoli.

After the Zion Mule Corps was disbanded, Jabotinsky petitioned the British government to create Jewish auxiliary to the British Army. In 1917, the government yielded and agreed to establish three Jewish Battalions, initiating the Jewish Legion. Jabotinsky soldiered in the Jordan Valley in 1918 and was decorated for bravery. As an officer in the 38th Royal Fusiliers, Jabotinsky fought with General Allenby in 1917. (General Allenby was the lead British General who fought to liberate Palestine from the Ottomans.)

How were the women treated in the Ottoman Empire?

Answer 1

I think the correct question here is, how different did the women got treated then the current ones in the O sooo mighty western world today. From what I know, OTOMAN had more respect to women. Never treated then like sex objects. Never forced them to work. They truly got treated like goddess. Ask your self, an EMPIRE lasted for over 4 centuries! Countless generations! You don't get to do that unless you did most things right.

Answer 2

Unfortunately, for the writer of Answer 1, history does not work through inductive reasoning based on shaky premises. It is a study of evidence. Women in the Ottoman Empire existed with many more differences than Western women as determined by their station and ethnicity. It was illegal for women to join most professions, so many stayed at home where they had relative freedom of mobility. Ottoman Nobility famously had harems full of beautiful women from across the Empire who had access to the greatest quality of life provided that the noble could request her personal presence at any moment. Women had little if any worth in Ottoman courts (their testimony being worth half of a man's) and they were more or less forbidden from inheriting property. As to Answer 1's rhetorical question of how the Ottoman Empire could survive for centuries while repressing women, the answer is simple: the Ottoman Army was the most advanced army in 1400s-1600s and afterwards they did not lose their empire as those under their rule did not have effective means of resistance. It had nothing to do with women.

What are the names of the Five battles of the Ottoman Empire?

The battles of Turkey. Well, the main one would be how long to put it in for. I mean, pound, pound, time, time, it's just confusing. Another would be what toppings and fillings to use. You can't please everyone, so don't try beets or that wierd jelly stuff, you just want to go for gravy on the side. Battle number three is who should make the turkey in the first place. Daughter in law, mother, grandmother, who cooks it? The fourth battle would be Whether to get a small turkey or a big turkey. It probably depends on the ammount/hunger of your guests, so choose wisely. Most people can eat a pound or so, so if you have 20 people over, try a 23 pounder. The last battle is whether to invite the mother-in-law to eat the turkey with the family. You know, THAT mother-in law? The one that has never and will never keep her mouth shut? You've got to base it on the tolerance of your other guests. I hope this helped you with the battles of turkey. PS- its not even Thanksgiving why do u need to know about the Ottoman Empire/Turkey? -The Painter

Why are the seljuk Turks and ottoman Turks important?

The seljuk Turks are considered to be important because they ruled over Persia, Iraq, Syria, and Anatolia. After the defeat of the Byzantine empire the Turks led in a way to the crusades which at that time was good (in a way) because the European Christians brought lots of new ideas and mixed culture with the Muslims. They blended ideas such as taxation on farmers which led the way for the Empire to be more economically stable. By having the economy stable they had the money to built new schools, roads, and religious centers unto which Muslims would gather for prayer. By having these religious centers the society would be more united and less problems would arrise in the umma (community) such as cheating, and the killing of innocent people.
