Ovulation is the release of a mature egg (or ovum) from one of the ovaries. It occurs about 14 days after the end of the last menstrual cycle. The egg travels down one of the fallopian tubes and is available for fertilization.

If you have the egg white cervical mucus for a few days is it a sign that you are ovulating or are about to ovulate?

Yes, this is normal. It could be pregnancy related or due to your period arriving. If your period fails to arrive, then perform a home pregnancy test - HPT.

When is ovulation on a forty four day cycle?

Ovulation is always 16-18 days after the first day of your cycle. For example, if you have began your cycle on Monday, February 11; begain to count that day until you have reached the sixteenth or eighteenth day.

This is not necessarily true for everyone though. Some women, like myself, ovulate late.

What position should your cervix be after ovulation?

During ovulation the cervix is high, soft and open. After ovulation the cervix is low, firm and closed.

It is not as simple as that. In some cases the cervix goes the other way. Mucus production is a more reliable sign.

"Some of the problems with MI (Manual inspection of the cervix position) were: difficulty with diagnosis, lack of time and space to practice it everyday, anxiety over possible infection and/or pain caused by touching, and ignorance about sexual organs. In timing ovulation, the accuracy rate of the new rhythm method was 87.9% in BBT+CM+MI, 75.9% in BBT+CM, and 51.7% in BBT only. In 85.7% the external uterine orifice raised at ovulation, while in 14.3% it lowered. Average shift in position from the lowest to the highest was 2.4cm-2.5cm. Other aspects of the uterine orifice which can be manually inspected are degree of its aperture and hardness."

How many days before a period does ovulation stop?

The menstrual cycle of an average woman is a 28-day cycle. It is divided into four major phases.

# Menstruation phase: This is when a woman menstruates or what we usually call bleeding. The first day of menstruation is considered as the first day of the menstrual cycle. It is normally considered as a 7-day phase. In this phase, the endometrium tissue of a woman's uterus breaks down and is removed from the body as menstrual blood.

# Proliferation phase: This phase occurs from day 8 to day 13 of the menstrual cycle. The endometrium prepares itself for implantation and tissue starts building up again. Meanwhile, the egg cell is ready for ovulation by the end of this phase. # Ovulation phase: It occurs on the 14th day of the menstrual cycle. In this phase, the egg is released from the ovary and taken up by the fallopian tube. # Post-ovualation phase: During this phase, if the egg is not fertilised, the ovulation follicle of the ovary gets converted to corpus luteum. During this phase, the hormone levels of oestrogen fall. At the end of the phase, the endometrial tissue starts to break down. So, ovulation occurs roughly 14 days before a period(menstruation).

How long does it take for an egg to leave your body after ovulation?

After being released from the ovary, the egg is swept into the fallopian tube by the fimbria, which is a fringe of tissue at the end of each fallopian tube. After about a day, an unfertilized egg will disintegrate or dissolve in the fallopian tube.

Please note: Fertilization by a spermatozoon, when it occurs, usually takes place well inside the fallopian tubes. A fertilized egg immediately begins the process of embryogenesis, or development. The developing embryo takes about three days to reach the uterus and another three days to implant into the endometrium. It has usually reached the blastocyst stage at the time of implantation.

Is your next menstrual cycle supposed to always start 14 days after ovulation?

Menstrual cycle consists of two phase: follicular phase‎ and luteal phase. Luteal phase starts the day after ovulation and ends the day before you get your menstruation. Many women have a luteal phase that is about 14 days long, but it can range from 10-16 days. So, if you have 28 day cycle and length of luteal phase 14 days - ovulation occurs on the 14 day of the cycle. If you have 31 day cycle, and the length of luteal phase 14 days - ovulation takes place on the 17 day. If you have 31 day cycle but the length of luteal phase 16 days - ovulation occurs on the 15 day. It's more easy to use calendar to predict ovulation, e.g. i use this one www.ladys-calendar.com

When is the most fertile time to become pregnant?

it depends how long ur cycles are. if u have 28 days from the start of one period to the start of the next, you likely ovulate around 14 days after the start of ur period. but if theres more than 28 days between them, u are likely ovulating later than day 14.

eg. if u have 30 day cycles u likely ovulate on day 16.

the rule of thumb is to have sex the couple days before and including the day u ovulate. so a normal person shud have sex from day 10-14ish. lets say ur period was 5 days long, so start having sex 5 days after ur period ends, for another 5 days, and u shud be set

What form of contraception suppresses ovulation?

The birth control pill prevents the release of eggs.

Why do you get a period on birth control if you don't ovulate?

Women who don't ovulate naturally may have one of two problems that are helped with birth control pills:

  • In women with polycystic ovarian syndrome and other high- or normal-estrogen states who don't ovulate, the risk of endometrial cancer is high. The birth control pill can eliminate this risk.
  • In women with anorexia or other low-estrogen states who don't ovulate, the estrogen in the birth control pill can offer some protection against bone loss.

Talk with your health care provider regarding whether it makes sense for you to use the birth control pill for noncontraceptive reasons.

Why would your menstrual cycle get longer?

It could mean a few things. As always you should consult your OB on this issue. However, I know of a few things that can alter your cycle.

1. Changes in sexual activity can affect your cycle.

2. If you recently started birth control pills, or you recently switched them, this could also be the cause. Your body is adjusting to the hormones.

3. Your hormones will be changing throughout your life, and especially will fluctuate with certain big events and stresses...like a wedding, honeymoon, moving, children, buying a house, getting a degree, losing someone close to you, money problmes....etc....

While your doctor and some uninformed people may tell you your cycle should be 28 days, every woman is different. Some have "normal" 23 day cycles, some have "normal" 35-day cycles. The real cause for concern should not be longer or shorter cycles, but whether you have other signs of problems. Are you ovulating? Do you get good cervical mucus mid-way through your cycle? Do you have severe cramps? Do you have super long periods or mid-cycle spotting? If you have other signs something is wrong, or are trying unsuccessfully to get pregnant, see your doctor. Otherwise, wait a few cycles and see if it evens out. Body imbalances (poor health, being overweight, smoking or drinking) can wreak havoc on your cycle as well.

What is ovulation regulated by?
