How much does a parakeet eat in a month?
You must fill your parakeet's feeder at least once a day. And don't worry, you parakeet will NOT over eat. For an adult parakeet, on average, this works out to about 4 teaspoons of formulated bird pellets (not seed) per day (about 1/3 an ounce or 14 grams per day), perhaps 1.5 pounds monthly. Pellets are nutritionally balanced and a great way to meet all of the parakeet's food requirements easily. When feeding seed as part of your parakeet's diet, make sure you empty it completely and fill it each day, because empty hulls make make the dish appear full when there is no actual food left.
Despite common belief an all seed diet is not adequate for a budgie. If fed only on seed you may be damaging it's liver and risking illness. A good diet for a budgie is a mix of budgie pellets/crumbles and a good quality seed mix (with as many different seeds as possible). Budgies also require fresh vegetables (spinach, broccoli, corn, carrot, etc) every one to two days as well as constant access to a source of calcium (cuttlebone) and a mineral/iodine block. Most budgies love spray millet; offer in small quantities as it is fattening.
You can make your parakeets diet more complete by also giving your parakeet any of the following: cooked beans, whole wheat bread, cooked rice, pasta; fresh fruits such as apples, oranges, and pears, fresh broccoli, carrots, yams, spinach, dandelion greens, other green/orange fruits and veggies. They also enjoy an occasional piece of hard boiled egg (without the shell, of course) or tuna (packed in water), and mealy worms or pesticide-free dandelion greens.
Some things to avoid with budgies are "junk food." apple seeds, chocolate, alcohol, avocado, salt and sugar. Also avoid asparagus, aubergine or eggplant, cabbage, caffeine (tea and coffee), junk food, milk and cream, raw potato, and rhubarb (including the leaves). Wash all vegetables before giving them to your budgie as most have been around pesticides.

What are the signs your parakeet is dying?
Some signs that your parakeet is dying is their feathers start to thin out, it seems very sleepy, and the face might even be a pinkish color. The bird also might hang out on the bottom of the cage instead of its perch. If the bird shows these signs, it should be seen by a veterinarian.
How do you tell if a albino parakeet is a boy or girl?
To tell for sure, you have to get it DNA sexed. Any avian vet will do this... in Canada, it is usually around $25. Not all parrots can be visually sexed like eclectus parrots, cockatiels or budgerigars...
Why does my male parakeet pull on my female parakeet's tail?
Maybe because they are just playing. Or if the tail is in the males face, then he'll pull on it. My female does the exact same thing

Does a parakeet puff up before starving?
If a bird fluffs up feathers there are a number of reasons;
Cold - Look at the temperature of the room the bird is housed
Moulting imminent - Birds that are moulting often feels "unwell" - Monitor
Ill - There can be many reason under this heading. Look at droppings and if they are different from the usual the it could be a digestive issue
Look at the food they are eating - Have they stopped eating as normal if yes change the diet as even the parrot can find the same old food an issue and may stop eating. The seed they are eating may not be feeding them as well . This can cause malnutrition - If the fluffing up is continuing seek a vets advice as birds will not show illness until they really are unwell - its their defense mechanism
How long does it take for a female parakeet to have her babies?
How long it will take for her to become gravid, you mean? Being gravid is when the egg is forming inside the budgie mommy. Make sure she is at least one year old before encouraging breeding behavior.
Buy a nestbox at the store (one sized for budgies and similarly-sized birds, of course) and put that in their cage. Add breeding supplements to their diet now so that the eggs will be healthy and the mother won't be as likely to suffer any ill effects. Read EVERYTHING you can find on how to take care of any issues that may arise during the laying, while the eggs are being sat on, and after the chicks hatch, because a moment of not knowing what to do could be the moment in which you lose mother, chicks, or both. Particularly be aware of the symptoms of egg binding. Do not encourage breeding unless you have enough money stored up to take her to the vet if something goes wrong and enough to buy materials to take over care of the chicks if mommy and daddy bird don't. Also read how to hand-raise them, if that's what you are going to do.
They are most likely going to breed in the spring. Leaving the light in their room on for longer hours will help them think it's breeding season. After they mate a few times, she'll lay her eggs within a few days. In about three weeks, the eggs will hatch. Congratulations, you'll be a budgie grandparent!
I was wondering too but I found out. If you want to know try taking your index and thumb
and pinching your finger (with the finger nails)
If a parakeet bites you don't jerk your hand away he/she will think that that's how to make the hand leave his/her cage.
What kind of fruit and veggies can you feed a parakeet?
>Food Your Bird CAN Eat< Parakeets can also eat hot peppers but it’s not recommended if your bird has a sensitive palette. Keep in mind that the bird MIGHT have to get used to the spicy of the pepper. If you don’t wanna give your bird a hot pepper then mangos, apples (Red Delicious so it’s nice and juicy), melons, bananas, figs, berries, grapes, and cherries are good options too! >Food Your Bird CAN’T Eat< 1. ANYTHING WITH CAFFEINE COULD KILL THE BIRD SO THERE SHOULD BE NO REASON TO GIVE IT TO THEM. 2. Garlic & Onion are VERY spicy to your bird and can hurt the tongue. 3. ANYTHING WITH MILK OR ICE CREAM = BAD. 4. ANYTHING with heavy cream is just bad for the bird. 5. NO SOUR FOODS. 6. AVOCADOS ARE GOOD FOR THE HEART IN HUMANS BUT ITS POISON FOR BIRDS. Anyways your welcome! If you have any questions my dm is: minibot_323@yahoo
