Word beginning with the letter h?

Officially, yes. Most teachers/professors will accept it either way. ANSWER In American English, it depends on whether or not the "h" is sounded. In "hour," it is not sounded; therefore, we say, "an hour." In "hostage," it is sounded; therefore, we say, "a hostage." [Some U.S.A. dialects use "a" in some words even when the "h" is not sounded. In the South, for example, one hears, "I'll be back in a (h)our."] That view rests on the general rule that if a word begins with a vowel we use "an," if it begins with a consonant, we use "a." Some h-words have alternate pronunciations, with the h and without. For example, the word "homage" is homage or omage -- or, in modern film lingo "ohMAGE." In America, we would say, "a homage"; "an omage"; "an ohMAGE." [spelvin]

Get out of jury duty?

If you receive a summons to appear for jury duty then you must appear,There are exemptions that can get you excused from jury duty such as health or medical reasons, financial hardships and other circumstances...

If you wish to be removed from all future summons of jury duty then simply go to the court clerk and be taken off the list, most states allow citizens to opt out of future jury duty... Correction to my original post has been made because information was found to be too conflicting to determine properly.

Added: Jury duty is a civic responsibility, and regardless of your 'desire' to be excused from it, every case of "hardship" stands on its own merits and must be evaluated and ruled on individually.

ADDED: All you have to do to get out of jury duty is to go to the DMV, get a new driver's license with a new address on it (outside of the court's jurisdiction) and take it to the clerk of courts and tell them you are in the process of moving to that address and to send all future correspondence to that new address. Either they will be forced to pay you travel time from that new address to the court each day or they will take you off the list. It's obvious that they'll take you off the list. They don't have the funds to check up on you to see if you actually moved and if they did you can always say your plans fell through and you decided not to move. It worked for me and you can always get your license changed back again.

Why should you have to work jury duty for slave labor wages while the fat cat judges, union police, lawyers, DA's, etc. get fat salaries and pensions off of your hard-earned tax dollars? The system is broken and one-sided. Why be a sucker?

Where can a convicted felon find an apartment in Phoenix Arizona?

A convicted felon can find an apartment in Albuquerque New Mexico by doing an internet search for " Apartments in Albuquerque NM that allow felons " It will pull up the yellow pages and although it isn't 100% accurate, it is a start. It's too bad there are so many closed minded people in positions where they are able to make re-entry to society harder than it already is. good luck...

How many people on parole in US?

If the 2010 report has been released I didnt find it; these figures are for 2009, reporting being turned in at the end of 2008: 828,169 people on parole from prison/jail.

This does not include the number of convicted criminals on probation, never having served any time behind bars (probationers are sentenced and the sentence suspended with probation terms, assigned a probation officer; if probation is violated, they will then go to prison/jail to serve out the remainder of their sentences). Following are the complete stats:

  • Nearly 5.1 million adults were under community supervision at yearend 2008.the equivalent of about 1 in every 45 adults in the United States.
  • Probationers (4,270,917) represented the majority (84%) of the community supervision population in 2008; parolees (828,169) accounted for a smaller share (16%).
  • The probation (0.9%) and parole (0.9%) populations grew at the same rate during 2008. The probation population increased by 36,446 probationers while the parole population increased by 6,992 parolees during the year.

You can see this and other stats on the website Bureau of Justice Stats at http://bjs.ojp.usdoj.gov/index.cfm

Can a Parole Officer arrest a person not on parole?

Can a convicted felon serve on a board in the state of New York?

convicted felons have essentially the same rights as those who have no conviction record with the exception to voting in some states, and possession of "firearms." The one right that is never discussed to which former felons have no right is protection from discrimination. So, while there is no specific law prohibiting a felon from serving on a board (provided that board is not over a healthcare facility or a school), the organization, business, minicipality, state or federal government can prohibit any felon from serving for no other purpose than that person was previously convicted. While felons have essentially the same rights as other citizens, they do not have the same protections.

What is unsupervised probation?

States like North Carolina have it. It means is that if you get arrested on a similar charge within the following year from your court date, your first charge will be put back on your record, regardless of its current condition.

How many people can be on state parole at one house?

Without the approval of the Parole Officer(s) supervising the people on parole, only one. The odds of a PO permitting more than one parolee to reside at one address is slim unless the residence is a halfway or three-quarter house.

Is there a time limit for convicted felons to regain their right to bear arms?

Yes. Until your next life, if you believe in reincarnation. A convicted felon may not purchase, possess, or be allowed access to firearms, ammunition, or body armor, and it remains that way for the duration of their lifetime.

Can probation officers enter your house if it is locked?

If accompanied by or at the direction of your probation officer, any law enforcement officer may search your home. On probation, you are still in custody. It is only the conditions of that custody that are altered. Probation is a conditional release, and one of the standard conditions is that you, your residence, and your vehicle are subject to periodic and potentially unannounced search.

Support letters are very personal and should not be based too much on an example. I did find one article that addresses this and contained a good example and very good suggestions.

If you are on probation in state of California and you cross into another state what can happen?

To start, this must be approved by your probation officer. If your probation officer will not approve it you can not leave.

If your probation officer will approve it, they will need to request that the probation department of another state accept you for probation supervision in their state. Your current probation officer will have to request this through a process called "Interstate Compact."

If and when another state accepts you, you will be assigned a new probation officer in your new state.

There are potential complications if you are approved as well. The judge from the state that convicted you has little power to enforce the terms of your probation agreement. That means the probation department in the state you move to can impose any conditions that they consider to be appropriate. For example, if a Judge in the state that convicted you did not require a treatment program for your offense the new states probation department may or they may make your live miserable in other ways by imposing restrictions that make it difficult do do almost anything at all. When they impose these restrictions there is little you can do about it because they will not take orders from your home state judge since it is out of their jurisdiction.

If you are considering moving out of state while on probation and without approval, I would highly advise against that. This would be a violation of your probation and would likely get you arrested.
