Should companies be allowed to patent organisms?

Whether companies should be allowed to patent organisms is a contentious issue. Proponents argue that patents incentivize innovation and investment in biotechnology, leading to advancements in medicine and agriculture. Opponents contend that patenting living organisms can lead to ethical concerns, monopolization of essential resources, and hinder access to vital genetic materials. Ultimately, a balanced approach that considers both innovation and ethical implications is necessary.

How many products have received a patent?

Patents cover inventions, not products. Some products may have multiple inventions, some patented, some patent pending, some not patentable at all. Some inventions are patented in one country and not in others.

How did the system of patents encourage innovation and investment?

Patent protection allows inventors to ascribe value to their intellectual property, and ideally derive an income from it. It also gives the companies or individuals funding expensive research a chance at recouping their investment. In pharmaceuticals, for example, research and testing can take many years and many millions of dollars; giving the developer a head start on selling it won't necessarily make all that money back, but it should help.

Without giving the inventors the brief period of monopoly provided by patent protection, there is little chance of being able to derive income from creativity, and therefore little incentive.

Who made The International double barrel 10 Ga patented 1883?

i have one of these in my possession, it was passed down through family. from what i was told it is a Fabrigues d'Armes Unies de Liege gun, you can see the signature stamp if you take it apart its a circle with the initials in it. I was told it was a 12 gauge black powder shell shotgun, so i have never shot it, but if you look up that name on youtube there is a guy shooting one at cans and it is not as smokey as i would expect black powder to be. I need to take it to a gun smith and have them tell me, if i find out more i will let you know. mine is 1887 tho so there might be some differences. If you find anymore info please post as a reply to this so i can read it also. Hope that helps! Thanks in advance and happy shooting.

Difference between patent and patent pending?

A patent is a grant from a patent office, such as the United States Patent Office. "Patent Pending" is a phrase that an application for a patent has been filed and is in some stage in the process of obtaining a patent. Thus, a patent can be presently enforced while a patent that is merely pending is unenforceable but can mature into a patent that can be enforced. Once the pending patent matures, the patent owner can sue for back damages or reasonable royalties starting from the filing date of the patent.
