Bacteria eventually lyse due to ongoing activity of cell wall autolytic enzymes (autolysins and murein hydrolases) while cell wall assembly is arrested.

It helped soldiers fight infection during the war. The wounds they would acquire would be life threatening if penicillin and various other anti biotics were not around. Even after the wound was cleaned the chance of infection spreading throughout the body was very high and killed many soldiers. Penicillin was very affective during the war and saved many lives.

i haven't read anywhere that the are or aren't any negative ordangerous drug interactions but my doctor did prescribe both at the same time so i can only assume that there isn't.. i have been with my lady for a little over a year now but i have a pretty crazy herniated disc that i have been nursing for about 2 and have been on opana ER 30mg (which is a time released opiate twice as strong as oxycodene (percocet)... and 6 times as vicoden i believe) twice a day with 10mg percocet 4 times a day for break through pain.. which can really mess with a guys up and at em'... so i talked to my doctor and got some viagra.... works like a charm....

If it's two days past the expiration date and you've got two doses left, go ahead and take them. If they're from when your mom was sick six months ago, throw it away (better yet, give it to a physician or pharmacist for proper disposal), get your own, and take all of it.

It depends what your antibiotics are for. If you are taking antibiotics to treat a bronchial, lung, or throat infection, I would say stay away from any cough syrup containing dextromethorphan. This suppresses your cough, which is your body's natural defense against foreign material in your airway. Think about it. You have bacteria trying to grow into a colony in your throat. If you keep coughing them up, they will have a much harder time growing and thriving. If you suppress your cough, they will be able to settle down without much disturbance.

However, if you get a cough syrup with guaifenesin as it's active ingredient, that may be best. Guaifenesin does not stop you from coughing, but helps you cough up whatever is in your airway better. It breaks up all that phlegm in there and allows it to pass. This may be your best bet. Just be SURE to drink a full glass of water with each dose of Guaifenesin. You will be surprised how much it helps!

However, if your antibiotic is for some other type of infection, like an ear infection or something not related to your cough at all, I would guess any type of cough syrup is fine.

Remember, DM is for a DRY cough, and Guaifenesin is for a wet cough.

It is best to ask the doctor who perscribed the antibiotic, or consult with a pharmacist. They know these things very well.

Azithromycin must not be taken by a person who is allergic to erythromycin. The two antibiotics are closely related and work in a similar manner. A qualified health professional will be able to recommend a safe alternative.

I do not know the answer to this question. I was on the internet to research the answer myself. I have a 20 year old daughter that was diagnosed with a penicillin allergy when she was 4 years old. She broke out in hives and looked like someone had beat her up. Since then we have been careful to avoid it. The other day she opened a garlic bread package that had been in the pantry and pretty much powdered her face with the green moldy powder, she immediately washed it all off. About an hour later she started breaking out in hives and was very itchy. She did not immediately put it together, and took an over the counter allergy med. It's been about 4 days and she has cleared up, but it left it's scars. We have come to the conclusion that it had to be the bread that caused it. She did not eat or drink anything out of the ordinary, nor did she go anywhere.

I am still going to try to find an answer to this. If anybody out that knows please tell me.

Penicillin is a very effective antibiotic which causes the cell walls of bacteria to break down by adding it's beta-lactam ring (part of its chemical structure) to the molecules used to build the wall. This weakens the bacteria and they lyse.

If too much penicillin is prescribed in a population, and especially if courses are not completed and some bacteria survive, then resistant forms emerge. These develop an enzyme called beta-lactamase which breaks down penicillin before it can have its effect. As such, they survive courses of penicillin and its related drugs, and a penicillin-resistant strain is formed which can only be treated with other drugs.

the answer to this is not simple - it all depends on the formulation (strength) of the drug you get. Penicillin G can be made in various strengths, and this will be expressed in IU (international units) of penicilling per mL on the label.

Yes, I believe you can. NyQuil treats your symptoms the same way a regular cough medication would. It is not the same as Penicillin and should not interfere with the antibiotic. Often doctors recommend taking something to help your symptoms while on an antibiotic, NyQuil is the same. It isn't good to take NyQuil or any other cold medication for several days in a row though, you should always read the label to see how many days it is recommended to take.
