How has your understanding of the solar system changed over time?

As with all branches of the sciences, as new evidence comes to light, old ideas receive revisions or are sometimes abandoned for improved ideas. It was once thought the planets and Sun orbited the Earth; later it was realized it was more accurate to say the planets orbited the Sun since that notion was more consistent with observations.

Why does the earth have fewer meteorite impact?

The Earth has fewer meteorite impacts compared to other bodies in the solar system because of its atmosphere, which burns up smaller meteoroids before they reach the surface. Also, the Earth's active geological processes, such as erosion and plate tectonics, constantly reshape its surface, which can erase evidence of past impacts. Additionally, the Moon lacks an atmosphere to protect it and has a more preserved impact record, making it appear that it has more impacts than Earth.

What are the conditions necessary for a terrestrial planet to have a strong magnetic field?

A terrestrial planet requires a liquid outer core composed of conductive materials, such as iron and nickel, to generate a magnetic field through a process called a geodynamo. Additionally, the planet needs to rotate to facilitate the generation of a magnetic field.

What planet is a red stoney dessert?

Mars is often referred to as the "red planet" due to its reddish-brown color caused by iron oxide (rust) on its surface. It is a barren desert planet with rocky terrain and little to no water.

Which planet takes 687 days to revolve around the sun?

mercury is the planet which revollve around sun in 687 days it means there is a yeqr is equal to 687 days

What is second full moon within a mouth called?

This is a blue moon. It happens very rarely, once every two to three years or so.

What are the four gas giants composed of?

The gas giants in our solar system, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, are composed mainly of hydrogen and helium gases. They also contain small amounts of methane, ammonia, and other gases. These planets have thick atmospheres surrounding a dense core of rocks and ices.

What is the process by which the terrestrial planets are believed to have formed?

The terrestrial planets are believed to have formed through a process called accretion, where dust and gas in the protoplanetary disk around the young sun collided and stuck together, gradually building up larger bodies. These bodies continued to grow through further collisions and merging of smaller objects, eventually forming the rocky planets Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars.

How a star dies is determined by its age shape position in its galaxy mass?

A star's death is primarily determined by its mass. Low to medium mass stars, like our Sun, will eventually exhaust their fuel and turn into a red giant before shedding their outer layers to form a planetary nebula and eventually becoming a white dwarf. Higher mass stars can undergo supernova explosions and leave behind neutron stars or black holes. Other factors such as age, shape, and position can influence the details of the death process, but mass is the most critical factor.

What planet starts with o?

No planet so far known, begin with the letter O.

Is there atmosphere in space in space?

Space isn't a complete vacuum as we are sometimes taught in school. But it doesn't necessarily have an "atmosphere" though there is the solar wind. Streaming particles from our sun that reach out to even the Voyager 2 spacecraft. What deep space beyond the sun's influence consists of is probably a mix of solar winds and possibly some sort of Dark Matter holding the galaxy together. Beyond the galaxy it is believed that Dark Energy pushes the galaxies further and further away.

Does gravity pull on planets?

the rule of gravity is the greater mass a planet is the stronger its gravitational pull is so the suns mass is so heavy that its gravitational pull is so strong it keeps all the planets in line

What planet is blue and has very thin newly discovered rings?

Uranus is the planet that appears blue due to the absorption of red light by methane in its atmosphere. Recently discovered faint rings have been observed around Uranus, adding to the known ring systems of the outer planets in our solar system.

When will the next solar storm hit the earth?

With little asteroids, they are so small that we generally cannot see them until they actually hit. The first ever asteroid detected in time was detected in October 2008, and the asteroid did strike the Earth 16 hours later, exploding high in the atmosphere over the Sudan, a nation in Africa. (There were no known casualties.)

As of now, there are no known asteroids that are on a collision course with the Earth.

How does the temp of the planets vary with the distance from the sun?

Generally speaking, the further a planet is from the sun, the colder it is, since less of the suns energy reaches a given area of the planets surface. Other factors come into play though, such as the rotation of the planet, its composition, size and atmosphere. Venus is the hottest planet, though it is only second from the sun. this is because Mercury has no atmosphere, while Venus has a very thick, heat retaining atmosphere.

Why is earth inhabitable and other planets are not?

Earth is habitable because it has the right conditions to support life, such as a suitable atmosphere, liquid water, and a stable climate. Other planets may not be habitable due to extreme temperatures, lack of atmosphere, or high levels of radiation that make it difficult for life as we know it to survive.

Which planets have both have moons and rings?

Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, and Uranus all have rings.

Jupiter

Jupiter's rings were discovered in 1979 by the Voyager 1 space probe. In total, there are 4 rings, and are in the following order (going from the innermost to outermost): Halo Ring, Main Ring, Amalthea Gossamer Ring, Thebe Gossamer Ring.

Saturn

Saturn's rings were discovered in 1610 by Galileo as he observed the planet through his telescope. In total, there are 7 rings, named in order of their discovery, and they are in the following order (going from the innermost to outermost): C, B, A, D, F, G, and E.

Neptune

Neptune's rings were first detected in 1968 but weren't noticed until 1977, when Uranus's rings were discovered. In total, there are 5 rings, and they have the following order (going from the innermost to outermost): Galle Ring, Leverrier Ring, Lassell Ring, Arago Ring, Adams Ring.

Uranus

Uranus's rings were discovered by James L. Elliot, Edward W. Dunham, and Douglas J. Mink, on March 10, 1977. In total, there are 13 rings, and are in the following order (going from the innermost to outermost): 1986U2R, 6, 5, 4, Alpha, Beta, Eta, Gamma, Delta, Lambda, Epsilon, Nu, and Mu.

Does the orbit time of planets increase or decrease as the distance from the sun increases?

The orbit time of planets increases as the distance from the sun increases. This relationship is described by Kepler's third law of planetary motion, which states that the square of a planet's orbital period is proportional to the cube of its average distance from the sun.

Can a planet made completely of water held together by gravity exist or are there some other factors that would play into such a scenario?

I suppose it could exist; water would exert gravitation just like anything else that has mass. Just like our Earth, the planet would have to be either massive enough, or cold enough, to avoid the water vapor gradually evaporating into space.

What do the frozen ice caps in Mars contain?

The frozen ice caps on Mars are composed of a mixture of water and carbon dioxide ice. These ice caps play a vital role in the planet's water cycle and are crucial for understanding Mars' climate history. Water ice has been detected beneath the surface of the ice caps, providing insight into potential water resources on the planet.

Which planet rotates on its axis?

All of them, though some more slowly than others.

What is a planet structure?

A planet's structure typically consists of several layers: a core made of a solid inner part and a liquid outer part, a mantle made of hot, semi-solid rock, and a crust made of solid rock. The structure can vary depending on the planet's composition and size.

What is the hottest planet in the solar sistem?

The usual answer is Venus.

However, this is a more complex question than it appears at first glance.

Consider the planet Mercury. Its surface temperature can approach 700 K. However, its average surface temperature is "only" about 450 K (still well above the boiling point of water), and at night temperatures can drop to around 110 K (not quite cold enough to liquefy air, but still very, very cold by human standards).

Venus, on the other hand, though further from the Sun has a thick atmosphere which traps heat and surface temperatures can reach 750 K or so, and the nighttime temperatures are not significantly lower. This gives it both the highest maximum and highest average surface temperatures of the terrestrial planets.

However, the situation becomes a bit more complicated when we look at the outer planets, which are gas giants and the term "surface temperature" has basically no meaning.

As far as we know, Jupiter doesn't actually HAVE a "surface". However, estimates are that at the phase transition point between liquid and metallic hydrogen deep below the cloud layer that we can see, temperatures may be as high as 10,000 K and at the core boundary the temperature is estimated at 36,000 K. Jupiter actually radiates more heat to space than it receives from the Sun. If we revise our definition of "hottest" to include the interiors of the planets, Jupiter is much hotter than Venus.

Which is closer to earth the sun or mars?

Mars is definitely closer to Earth than the sun.

CorrectionThere's no specific answer. Mars and Earth both orbit around the sun but at different rates (365.23 days for Earth, and about 687 days for Mars). That means their relative positions can be anywhere from on the same radial line in relation to the sun to 180 degrees opposite to each other; in effect "on the same side" or "on the opposite side" of the sun.

Using some very approximate numbers, the average distance from the sun to Earth is 150,000,000 km while Mars is 227,000,000 km away. So when the two planets are nearest each other ("same side") they might come as close as 77 million km while they could be as much as 377 million km apart at their farthest ("opposite sides"). Of course neither planet's orbit is exactly circular, so those numbers can change by as much as 10% or so, depending on where the matchups occur.

Which planet has white and orange bands?

Jupiter is the planet known for its white and orange bands caused by different atmospheric gases and particles. The planet’s colorful bands are created by swirling clouds of ammonia crystals, sulfur, and water vapor in its atmosphere.
