Start with the Right Smile

Learning how to break a genuine smile is the first step in learning how to introduce yourself as a manager.

Avoid smiling so wide that you look like you're trying to sell snake oil. Smile not just with your mouth but with your eyes and cheekbones as well. Try making a gentle smile. Notice how your cheekbone rises slightly and your eyes squint a bit even if you make a smile so subtle it is nearly imperceptible? That's the kind of smile that is genuine, as it exudes politeness and respect but not falseness and pretension.

Boring implies feelings of listlessness and discontent: I had never read such a boring book. Tedious suggests dull slowness or long-windedness: Traveling by plane avoids spending tedious days on the train. Irksome describes what is demanding of time and effort and yet is dull and often unrewarding: "I know and feel what an irksome task the writing of long letters is" (Edmund Burke). Something tiresome fatigues because it seems to be interminable or to be marked by unremitting sameness: "What a tiresome being is a man who is fond of talking" (Benjamin Jowett). I personally think that boys and girls should be taught in the same class. First of all, in the future when both genders are fully grown and are getting jobs for the first time, they need to be comfortable communicating with each other and interacting. Aside from the fact that boys and girls distract each other and raise a lot of drama, it will also increase their knowledge and common sense about the world and will help them be kinder and wiser than a boy who only went to an all boy school, or a girl that only went to an all girl school.

There is certainly research to support both perspectives. Among the most compelling are several studies that showed that girls in particular benefit from classes excluding male students, especially in areas such as math and science. Perhaps the most compelling support for mixed gender classes is real life; once students leave school, it is highly unlikely that they will work in a single gender environment, so need to learn coping skills as early as possible. It is therefore the responsibility of the educator to do what is necessary to level the playing field and to help students learn how to interact with each other.
