I was prescribed these two drugs together while waiting on back surgery in 1990

Prozac (fluoxetine) and Celexa (citalopram) have the same mechanism of action. The biggest differences are in pharmacokinetics (how the body handles the drug). Fluoxetine stays in the body for a couple of weeks after the medication has been discontinued. Citalopram is cleared more rapidly. Fluoxetine has much more drug/drug interactions which might become a problem when using certain other drugs at the same time.

In some rare instances it can be of use, however in many cases Prozac is no longer prescribed to teens as SSRI antidepressants have been proved to be highly risk laden when used with teens. In the United Kingdom it has been banned for use with children. There are many instances where the introduction of an antidepressant can make Bulimia worse, as it can increase anxiety.

I currently take 80mg straterra, 70mg vyvanse (a speed-derived drug like adderall), and 10mg lexapro (an ssri like paxil, luvox, etc) and it is working great!

before I started vyvanse, I was taking straterra with lexapro and adderall: about 40 mg of adderall daily.

taking too much adderall caused me to be very anxious, self-conscious, and almost paranoid. when I reduced adderall to about 20 mg/day, as well as when I switched over to vyvanse, things smoothed out much better.

i should add that I was smoking a decent amount of medical marijuana at for most of this period too, which probably increased the paranoia....

I have since stopped the pot, and things are very smooth.

Just my personal experience, your results may vary, but whatever you do, be very cafeful with adderall!!! I had a mild psychotic episode where I thought everyone was out to get me, I couldn't leave home, and I am a "normal" person!

I am on 40mg of Srattera (once a day), 30mg of Adderall and 37.5mg of Paxil. I haven't noticed any unusual side effects, but that is just my own experience. Every individual is unique in their response to certain medications.

of course you can. any antidepressant or anti psychotic drug in a large number can kill a person. Im not going to suggest doing so, because that's just sick..but, if they don't kill, they leave horrible side effects that you will probably have forever. hope that helps.

Both Prozac and Wellbutrin are treatments for depression. Although there are hardly any clinical trials, if any, evaluating response and side effects of the combination therapy some psychiatrists believe the two medications can better handle different components of depression (such as anxiety). Since this is based on personal experiences, not actual systematic testing there is no reliable data on interactions between the two drugs, efficacy or safety.

I am a pharmacist and have seen the two used together...Cymbalta is a SNRI and can sometimes cause insomnia (usually used once daily). Prescribers may add trazodone once nightly and it is helpful for this side effect caused by Cymbalta.

i wouldn't worry too much about weaning off of Prozac...
it's acclimating to effexor (and weaning off of it) that's tough.

that said, effexor worked wonderfully for me, pulling me out of a very deep hole.

it's just that it has side effects that can be pretty rough.

For me, the good was it helped my mood and I lost some weight. The bad was reduced libido and teeth clenching. Go to Google.com and type in "which antidepressant" or "Prozac side effects" and you'll get lots of good information, but do consider the sources (reliable medical information or not).

I've been on a few different antidepressants, but overall for depression the best for me has been Prozac. They all have side effects; you just have to try them to see which ones you tolerate best. But give them a good try--they all take a month or so before you start feeling a difference, and ask your doctor how to wean off slowly if you don't feel an improvement and want to stop. The withdrawal symptoms can be very difficult. Remember, antidepressants go hand in hand with counseling; it's important to have both. Good Luck!

Please do bear in mind that the 'suicidal tendencies' associated with anti-depressants occur when they first start to work. Generally when a person who is feeling extremely depressed and in despair starts taking anti-depressants they feel a little bit better and enabled to take some control at last. Unfortunately the first thing they usually feel enabled to do is finish their misery by ending their own life. If they could just hold out for another week or two they would not only feel enabled and like they had some control of their life but not so terribly miserable that the only solution they can comprehend is to terminate their life. So please do think cautiously, look after yourself and seek professional help as you work things out.

The number one side effect of Prozac is nausea and GI upset (studies are showing that it can cause similar problems as NSAIDs so you should be careful with mixing these and if you are prone to ulcers/GI bleeds). Then comes decreased sexual desire.

Your doctor should have gone over this with you before prescribing these. Call his/her office and ask, as such things vary with the individual. If you cannot reach the office, contact your local pharmacy.

Hi. I currently take 15mg of Reductil for weight loss assistance and 20mg of Fluoxetine for mild depression and have been taking both for almost 1 year, as prescribed by my GP. I have had not had any adverse reactions however, my dose of fluoxetine is low. Perhaps a higher dose of fluoxetine may cause side effects when taken alongside Reductil.

Yes, in fact, Seroquel taken in the evening can help with the insomnia caused by Effexor.
I have seen them prescribed together. As always one should check with their psychiatrist to make sure it is not contraindicated for them.

Drinking while on any anti-depressant is dangerous. You may become intoxicated much faster or become more depressed. Alcohol can also increase side effects. Here is an article on the subject.

Yes Ritalin and Prozac (fluoxetine) work in very different ways and are able to be taken together, I take both of them to help with both ADHD and depression and there are no side effects from taking them both simultaniously.

THis is not recommended. You should not take two sedating medications together. Overdosing on sedative drugs can cause you to become confused or pass out. You might even have trouble breathing.

The LD 50 (lethal does in 50% of the test subjects) for mice is about less than 180mg/kg. This means about 4 tablets per pound -- far more than is prescribed. Ever.

no and yes. but i suppose it depends on the user. i took abilify for about 9 months and smoked the whole time and i was fine, however it is very common for marijuana to stop a medicine from doing its job. so it may be a waste of money to buy one while using the other. but everyone is different so dont make any drastic changes because of my answer.

Abilify blocks the dopamine D3 receptors, so you won't enjoy it as much.

Every psychiatrist is different, just as every patient is different so the session will vary according to the personalities involved. I assume you are referring to Prozac Weekly, as this is the typical dose we prescribe for it. The weekly pill only comes in a 90 mg form that I am aware of, and it's usually started about a week after stopping regular Prozac (typically, the weekly form is not prescribed for acute treatment--just long-term treatment, although some physicians may start with it). As with any of the anti-depressants, the main thing we look for is an increase in suicidal thoughts and actions or worsening of the patient's depression.
