Puberty and Adolescence

There is no definitive end point to puberty as different boys start it at different ages and some take longer to complete the process than others. By 21 or so years of age (if not sooner) most boys (really young men) will probably have reached their maximum height and their penis will probably have reached its maximum length but muscle mass and body hair may continue to extend after this age and may continue into the mid thirties or perhaps even later.

Its different for every male. Typically, males can begin puberty at around 12 years old, yet some guys barely begin puberty at 16 years of age. On average, shoot for 12.

Here is a simplified checklist of what occurs during the different stages of puberty for boys and girls.

Stage I

Stage II

- Small amount of light downy hair at the base of the penis and scrotum

- Scrotum skin thins

- Testicles continue to enlarge (up to 6 ml)

- Scrotal enlargement begins

- Penis size remains unchanged

Stage III

- Pubic hair begins to darken and become more coarse

- Pubic hair begins to extend from just above penis to more of a triangle shape

- Testicular size around 6-12 ml

- Scrotum continues to enlarge

- Penis begins to enlarge, first in width, then in length (up to about 6 cm)

- Due to increased hormone secretion, 70% develop breasts temporarily

Stage IV

- Pubic hair has quality of adult, but has not extended to the legs

- Testicular volume about 12-20 ml

- Scrotum continues to enlargen

- Scrotum begins to darken in color

- Penis continues to enlarge, first in length (up to about 10 cm), then in width

- Due to increased hormone secretion, 70% develop breasts temporarily

Stage V

- Pubic hair extends to medial thigh

- Testicular volume 18-20 ml or larger

- Adult sized and colored scrotum

- Penis length around 15 cm

- Gynecomastia, if present, regresses

- No breast gland tissue present

- Areola is not elevated above skin of the chest

Stage II

- Small amount of long downy hair beginning to grow on labia majora

- Breast buds form

- Small area of glandular tissue in breast is present

- Areola begins to get larger

- Menarche often occurs in late stage I or in stage II

Stage III

- Pubic hair begins to darken and become more curly and coarse

- Pubic hair begins to spread to pons pubis and then laterally

- Breast begins to elevate above surface of chest

- Breast development beyond borders of aerola

Stage IV

- Adult-like pubic hair on mons pubis, but does not extend to upper thigh

- Increased breast size and elevation

- Areola develops a second elevated region that extends beyond the plane of the rest of the breast.

Stage V

- Adult pubic hair distribution and texture

- Breast is adult in size

- Areola's secondary elevated region begins to regress to the same plane as the rest of the breast

- Papilla remains projected

Breasts are made up of breast tissue, ducts, lobes (milk glands) and fat.

· Breast tissue only develops during puberty and cannot be increased.

Yes its because they are growing to become bigger.

They may hurt at times due to how quickly they are growing during puberty. It is nothing to worry about but if it is too much for you then speak with your mom as she may be able to help or take you to the doctors.

Although there are steroids that could potentially 'jump-start' puberty, this is not advised and could lead to very serious medical implications later in life. These would be to be prescribed by your doctor, therefore this option is very unlikely. Other than some steroids/hormone medicines, there is no way to start puberty early. There is also no need to start it early! To be honest, although you may feel left out if your peers have already started to develop, it's not necessarily a good thing. Studies in males have shown that children starting puberty later have had deeper voices and grown taller than those that started at around 11/12. Just remember; do not be ashamed or embarrassed about your body and development. It is a perfectly natural process and will occur, sooner or later.

Not normally. Normally puberty doesn't start in males until 11 or so, and sometimes as early as 8 or 9. If you have a 7 year old boy who is showing signs of puberty, then there is a decent chance there may be a problem. You should take him to his pediatrician or a pediatric endocrinologist to get it checked out.

Whilst it would be unusual and rare for a boy to start Puberty at the age of 7, it is not out of the question completely !

Some causes to why we teens become so emotional is family, friends, or boyfriends/girlfriends. We always disagree with our parents because some parents blame them for everything. Other parents say the world revolves around us. Well we see the world differently and not the same way as parents. We always say, oh i wish they understood. Because parents never do. Also, most all teenagers only want to hang out with their friends or boyfriend/girlfriend.

well it depends if you mean 8 inches erect or not erect

If erect than yes it is perfectly normal; you are just going through puberty very quickly

If not erect, this means that it is in your genetics probably your male family members have large penises as well which is also normal

Yes for the time being you will probably have a larger penis than your friends but it isn't something to be ashamed of

Testosterone is the male hormone that controls Puberty and growth in a male. Boys have other hormones in their bodies also, including female hormones ! But Testosterone is the greater male hormone that gives boys their characteristics.
