A hexagonal pyramid looks like very much like an Egyptian pyramid except the Egyptian version has only four triangular sides and a hexagonal version has six triangular sides.

To excavate the stone 'pounders' were used to pulverize the stone around the edge of the block. 60 - 70 men would pound out the stone. At the bottom of the block they rammed wooden pegs into slots they had cut and filled the slots with water. The earlier pyramids had internal designs that varied in style. Sneferu's pyramids (he had three) have chambers above and below ground. His son Khufu built a pyramid (the Great Pyramid) with a unique design in that it has chambers high above ground in the body of the pyramid. Pyramids built after Khufu have their chambers on or below ground. None of these early pyramids were inscribed with texts or imagery, their walls completely blank. Still, it contains no images (other than a pattern on the walls that surround the sarcophagus), just wall to wall texts. By this time design had become standardised, most conforming to the same design: an entrance on the north side, a descending passage leading down into the pyramid at an angle of 26 degrees. This passage then changed to horizontal at ground level and was then usually blocked by three slabs of stone. Beyond this blockage was a small, usually square room called the ante-chamber. This ante-chamber was almost always positioned directly below the apex of the pyramid. On the east side of the antechamber were usually a few small compartments that were used to store offerings or even a 'ka statue', to which these provisions were given as offerings. On the other side of the antechamber, the west side, was usually a very short passage that led to the rectangular shaped sarcophagus chamber. This was where the king's body was entombed in his sarcophagus positioned at the western end of the chamber. On the walls around the sarcophagus was a pattern that emulated the palace facade, the rest of the chamber usually being covered in texts.
