Why does the hare population fluctuate?

The 'hare' population, like any native animal or even botanical species, will fluctuate depending on a wide variety of factors. The amount of predation is another factor, as is the activity of human beings, whether via hunting or construction or other interference with the natural activities and habitat of the hare.

When do bunnies leave mom?

AnswerBunnies should be with their mother for 3-4 months because I hade a rabbit that wasn't with her mother that long and she was smaller than she was supposed to be for her kind of breed.

Actually if the babies stayed with mom that long, she and they would all be pregnant! It's best to wean the babies at eight WEEKS, though some people wean as early as six weeks.

How long do European Rabbits live?

Are rabbits naturally aggressive?

No. In fact, most rabbits are extremely nice once they get to know you.

When rabbits are scared, they tend to bite. Aggression is a common reaction for rabbits that are frightened, angry, insecure, etc. Aggression can also be caused by sexual hormones, territorial feelings, etc.

There are many things you can do help reduce aggression in a rabbit. Spaying/neutering is the first step: it's a safe procedure for most rabbits (at the hands of an experienced, rabbit-savvy vet), and widely recommended. Otherwise, do what you can to control the rabbit's environment so as to maximize his or her sense of security. There are many resources online that can help you. Answer #2

Don't ask me what the first answer is all about. If two month old babies are fighting they are more than likely too crowded and trying to establish dominance and mock breeding. You can not leave rabbits that are fighting together even if you have them neutered/spayed. The reason they are fighting is for territory. Rabbits are very territorial and want and need their own space. They will fight for space.

What size is a hare?

Hares are leporids belonging to the Lepus genus and are closely related to Jackrabbits. There a many species of hare, such as, the European Brown Hare, the Snowshoe Hare, the Black tailed Jackrabbit and the White tailed Jackrabbit. They are all generally fast moving animals, the European Brown hare can run at speeds of about 45 mph (70 km/h). Hares like to live on their own and lead a solitary life style, although they can be found in pairs and do interact with other hares in their territory. They are relatively shy creatures, but during the spring months, their behaviour changes and they can be seen in daylight, chasing one another round meadow and fields. This is mainly a display of dominance and allows males to compete for breeding rights with the females. During the spring months, hares can be seen striking one another with their paws, an action that is referred to as "boxing". It was believed that this was also display of dominates and was chiefly a male activity, however, recent observations have shown this not to be the case. It is now thought that "boxing" is usually the female hitting the male and it is believed to be for one of two reasons: one, that she is not ready to mate and wishes to deter the male's interest, or two, to test the males determination of courtship. Either way, it was this "boxing" activity that lead to the creation of the expression "mad as a March hare", March being the time most hares start the boxing rituals.

She gets a variety of food such as bok choy, rabbit pellets, carrots, sweet/corn, celery, carrot leaves, she does like apple every now and then. grass, dock leaves and dandelion, along with puha and watercress. She drinks water alot when she is eating just pellets, we will give her fancy lettuce if we are having salad, she eats the cats food so we have started feeding them when we lock her in our bedroom and then remove their remaining food out of her reach. I let my daughter kill her fleas if she gets them and Patches doesn't mind, but if you no of a treatment that is safe let us know.

Can rabbits eat fruit?

Mostly, yes, rabbits can eat fruit, but only as a treat. A bite or two per day is enough.

Generally speaking, rabbits can eat the same fruit that we can; parts of the fruit that we can't eat (like peels, stones) should be removed first. Some plants are poisonous for rabbits (including some fruit), so be careful what you give your bunny to eat. (See the related link below for a list of poisonous plants.)

Fresh fruits and veggies are a great way to add variety to your bunny's diet. They're also a fun way to interact with your bunny, because you can find out which ones your rabbit likes, and which ones she or he doesn't like. You can also put them in toys, or use them as a reward, like in training, or as a treat after a stressful event. They're less expensive than packaged treats from the store, and much better for your bunny.

Fruits and veggies can make your rabbit sick if you give too much of them. Dark leafy greens (like romaine lettuce, basil, and carrot tops) are the best kind. All other veggies (like carrot) and fruit should be considered treats.

See the related questions and links below for more information.

Do two Neatherland dwarf rabbits get along?

What gender are the rabbits? If both Netherland Dwarfs are bucks then it is almost a guarantee that they will not get along. Bucks are extremely aggressive to other bucks and will even fight until death. If both of the rabbits are females, then there is a chance they will get along when they are young, but as they reach maturity they may start fighting. Of course, this does depends on each rabbits personality. The best combination of two Netherland Dwarfs would be a fixed buck and a doe. The buck must be fixed or you will get lots of babies (which is not good on the doe's body). Rabbits generally do best when they are caged separately, although there are exceptional cases where two rabbits get along just fine. The choice is up to the owner, but there are always unpredictable risks when putting two rabbits together.

Do female rabbits have extra fur around their neck and legs?

Should i leave the baby rabbits where they are if they are not in a nesting box?

Is the mother a wild rabbit and you just found the baby rabbits? If so, leave them where they are.

If the mother is Domestic and inside, as long as the room they are kept in is warm they should be fine. If they are outside in a hutch, a nesting box would be advised.

My rabbit comes into the house twice a day an hour every morning night but I've recently been told that temperature change can be very dangerous to your bunny is this true if it is what should I do?

First off, you might consider bringing your rabbit into the house permanently unless it is simply impossible. House rabbits live longer than rabbits kept outdoors. You can also better regulate temperature for your rabbit if you allow it to stay in a climate-controlled environment.

If you are absolutely unable to move your rabbit indoors full-time, you can try the following:

1. Give your rabbit a couple of hard-shelled plastic freezer packs (to avoid damage by teeth), or freeze water in old bottles and place them where your rabbit likes to lie. 2. Provide a fan that your rabbit can sit near. Some rabbits do not like a direct breeze, so position it to create a cool air flow. 3. Make sure your rabbit is hydrated! Easy access to several water sources is ideal, and if your rabbit will drink from a bowl you can try leaving a handful of ice cubes in the water to keep it cool for an extended period of time. 4. Air conditioning. This may seem obvious, but if you can afford a cheap a/c unit for the room where your rabbit spends most of its time, your rabbit will be more comfortable. Remember that your rabbit's fur coat is the equivalent of you wearing a sweater at all times - if you think you'd be too warm in a sweater, chances are your rabbit is already too warm. Lastly, if your rabbit is overheated and can't be cooled down by a shallow bath in a lukewarm water, you may have a medical emergency on your hands. If your rabbit begins to act ill or lethargic, seek veterinary treatment immediately.

I know rabbits lick you when they love you but why want she stop she just keeps on licking?

Rabbits lick as a form of grooming and bonding behavior, not necessarily just to show love. If your rabbit keeps licking you excessively, it may be a sign that they are stressed, bored, or seeking attention. Providing them with more mental stimulation and social interaction may help reduce the excessive licking.

How do you know if your male rabbit is actually penetrating the female?

You can usually tell that the female is receptive if she arches her hind legs and hips toward behind her body. I have seen the female do this when the male stamped his feet in the kitchen, The male rabbit will other wise be humping the females tail and completely missing the vagina on the underside. Also the male will have to bite the females hair supposedly in order to get the bunny in the correct position, I know this because the male rabbit in the house right now hasn't gotten the female pregnant so obviously they're doing something wrong. _______________________________________________________________________

The best way I know a breeding took is the buck will mount the doe and do his business, and when he is successful he will roll/fall off sideways and do a strange grunt or sound (the sound is hard to explain, but you'll know it if you hear it). Also, once the buck has fallen off, feel the doe's stomach. It should feel "loose" and squishy instead of how it usually feels.
