Why do some bunnies get wet eyes?

What do baby bunnies say?

What to do if the baby rabbit hasn't open its eyes?

First off you should never touch a wild kit (baby rabbit) if its mother is still alive. If the mother is dead then you may take the rabbit into your care. Considering that the kit has yet to open its eyes it is less than 10 days old, which is when they open their eyes. You can feed the kit by hand with a baby bottle and some kitten formula. You can also use a foster doe to feed the kit.

What is the best breed of rabbits for a child?

i like polish rabbits. they are fairly small weighing about 2.5 pounds and they are freindly.flemish giants are nice but they are quite large for a child. HHolland lops would make good pets and the kids like their floppy ears. i would stay away from netherland dwarfs as they can be a little jumpy. i would reccomend polish or holland lops for young kids.

What symptoms might you see if a rabbit eats traces of onion?

Watch your rabbit carefully for the next few hours, and if he or she shows any signs of pain or goes into anaphylaxis, bring her to the vet IMMEDIATELY.

If the rabbit doesn't get sick right away, then make an appointment with a "rabbit-savvy" vet for a blood test as soon as is convenient (within the week). Aside from anaphylaxis, the other possible consequence of rabbits eating onion is haemolytic anemia.

See the related question below about rabbit vets for details.

How do you get rabbits to stop eating the garden?

Tomato vines, leaves, and stems are toxic to rabbits of all ages.

Tomato fruit may be okay as a treat for adult bunnies, but rabbits shouldn't start eating treats (fruit, most veg) until they're about 6 months old.

Baby rabbits, once they're weaned, should have unlimited 24/7 access to alfalfa hay, pellets, and water. Once they're about 12 weeks old, they can start nibbling on tiny amounts of fresh greens.

Does a female rabbit build its own nest?

You do not need to build the nest.

The doe will bud the nest herself, using straw and other materials, and fur from her belly.

You should thus provide extra straw for her to build with.

She will keep them warm this way, don't touch the kits!

The doe will only be with them a few times every day, but she has not abandoned them. Just don't touch them.

Why do rabbits that live in the desert have fur on the soles of their feet?

The rabbits have hair on their soles to give them warmth. The hair is also to prevent the inner tissues of the soles from damage.

How can you bathe a rabbit?

Healthy rabbits of all ages don't need baths because they clean themselves. If your rabbit is sick, something is wrong and you should treat the cause as well as the symptoms (the smelliness or dirtiness) - this usually means a trip to the vet. Baths can be dangerous for rabbits so they should be avoided; if they're necessary, special precautions must be followed so the rabbit stays safe and healthy. See the related question below for more details.

A bit more information:

Do not bathe a BABY rabbit. Rabbits should not be bathed unless they are 3 months old or older. The exception is if they have had diarrhea, then follow the instructions below.

To give a baby rabbit a bath you can use special rabbit shampoo that you may find in a pet store. Do not use just any shampoo: rabbits have very sensitive skin and many human, baby, cat, and dog shampoos can hurt your rabbit. To give it a bath it depends on the size if it is big use a tub if it is still really little use a sink. Fill it up with warm water enough for it to reach the bottom of the tub or sink so that the head is not in the water - the water level shouldn't go above the belly. Make sure you DO NOT wet its ears or face. Next take a little shampoo in your hand and start rubbing the body but softly. Rinse your rabbit and keep it in a warm towel till it is completely dry. Last, make sure it is warm and dry and put it back in its cage. Make sure you rinse all the soap out of it's coat. You can also use cat shampoo if your store does not carry the 'rabbit' shampoo, but even some cat shampoos aren't safe.

If a rabbit gives birth to one still born fetus will it give birth to any more babies?

For a first time Mom, yes that's normal. Unless it was born unlive then no but if it was born unalive then it would be called a stillborn and that would show that the rabbit is being put under a lot of stress...for example: living in a cage and not getting out of the cage enough.

How do bunnies use their ears to help them live?

In the wild, the ears help them listen for predators and other dangers. For a pet, they don't matter much.

Are kangaroos giant rabbits?

Animals that are like the kangaroo:

The kangaroo belongs to the order Marsupialia, or marsupials, a characteristic of which is to give birth to undeveloped young. While not all marsupials have an abdominal pouch, many besides the kangaroos do. Animals that are like kangaroos in that they carry their young in a pouch are wallabies, the koala, possums, opossums, wombats, the Tasmanian devil, bandicoots, bettongs, the bilby, quolls and the quokka.

More information about kangaroos: There are about 63 types of kangaroo.

There are many varieties of kangaroo which come under the heading of "macropod". Members of the macropod family are characterised by their big feet ("macropod" means "great-footed"), their front pouches, and the fact that they move primarily by hopping. They are similar in appearance and characteristics, but differ considerably in size.

There are four main species that are commonly called kangaroo. These are:

  • The Red Kangaroo (Macropus rufus) - This is the largest marsupial in the world and the most common in Australia.
  • The Eastern Grey Kangaroo (Macropus giganteus) - This species ranges over the fertile eastern part of the continent.
  • The Western Grey Kangaroo (Macropus fuliginosus) - This species is found in the southern part of west Australia, near the coast of south Australia and the Darling River basin.
  • The Antilopine Kangaroo (Macropus antilopinus) - This species is found in the far north of Australia. They inhabit grassy plains and woodlands.

Other species of kangaroos are smaller, and they include:

  • Wallabies, including different species of rock-wallaby, brush wallaby and swamp wallaby
  • Quokkas, once thought to be a type of wallaby, but now regarded as another separate group
  • Musky-rat kangaroo (the smallest of all kangaroos)
  • Tree kangaroos, which live in trees, although they can easily jump to the ground from 6m up and escape along the ground if threatened. There are numerous species of tree-kangaroos. They have shorter hind legs and a long, non-prehensile tail which they use as a rudder for jumping between tree branches. They are the only type also found in New Guinea.
  • Pademelons, which are the smallest of the macropod family. There are many different varities of pademelons.
  • Wallaroos and euros, which come in between wallabies and kangaroos in size. They are characterised by a more thickset body, and are darker around the snout.

Then there are the potoroids - a sub-species of the kangaroo family. Examples include:

  • Rat-kangaroos, which look like oversized rats around the face and ears. There are various species of these, such as the Musky rat-kangaroo and the Rufous rat-kangaroo. Rat kangaroos are different to the kangaroo-rats of North America, and not at all related.
  • Potoroos, which are small and quite endangered. Gilbert's Potoroo is the most threatened marsupial species in Australia.
  • Bettongs which, like the potoroo, are sometimes included in with the rat-kangaroos. They are quite small, usually weighing only a couple of kilograms when mature.

What does the snowshoe jack rabbit eat?
