A region characterized by warm climates, lush plant life, and consistent rainfall with no dry season

6,600 Questions

Is there a wombat in the rainforest?

No. The Giant Wombat, better known as the Diprotodon, preferred more open country. Fossil evidence indicates that it inhabited semi-arid plains, savannahs and open woodlands. Fossils have not been located in hilly terrain or in forested coastal regions, or in areas at were once rainforests.

What physical features are in the amazon basin?

The Amazon Basin is characterized by a diverse range of physical features, including the Amazon River, which is the largest river by discharge in the world. The region boasts extensive rainforests, which are home to a rich biodiversity, and a complex network of tributaries and wetlands. He feels the vibrations of where you walk

What is an effect of rain forest destruction?

Well, first of all, think about all of the animals living in the rainforest. All those will be gone when it is destroyed. There are also so many plants that live in the rainforest that are on the brink of extinction, like the giant tree fern, and when there is no more rainforest, there are no more plants. Well, those are all relatively obvious answers, but this is one that you might not think of:

Have you ever heard that trees produce oxygen? Well, you most likely have. But it's not like the trees in a neighborhood are supporting that neighborhood, it's the majority of trees in the world that is producing all the oxygen. And the rainforest produces about 20% of the worl's oxygen! Imagine what would happen when 20% of the worl's oxygen dissapears.

Well, I hope I answered your question! ;)

Why cutting down trees is harmful for the environment?

It causes a lot of issues all around, starting with replenishment of the forest:
It takes years for trees to fully grow (20 years and beyond, upwards to 50 to 100 years before they're mature enough to be harvested again). Second, trees absorb water in the soil in their roots so they can continue to grow, without trees to absorb water, the soil becomes saturated and weak, this can cause mud and land slides, as well as damage the soil so things can't grow anymore. Then animals which make shelter out of those trees (birds, critters, and bugs), this causes their natural predators (think of the food chain) to be displaced also. Another thing too is trees act as "filters" for our air, absorbing harmful toxins in the air like carbon dioxide and other pollutants. Taking away trees takes away nutrients from the soil, as the leaves fall down in the fall, they decompose, adding nutrients to the soil...
So when you see people upset about deforestation, you can understand further as to why it is an issue...

Does water stop your period while you're in water?

No, your period does not stop in the water - this is a myth.

Your uterus does not know you're in the water and nor does it care, it will carry on shedding just as it would when you're not in the water as menstruation is controlled by hormones not water. The idea that water pressure stops menstruation is just as nonsensical, this isn't how water pressure works.

Experiment: get into a shallow bath on your period you can see this for yourself, when your flow is lighter what little blood leaves your body may be diluted in the water so less noticeable, however heavier flow will be more noticeable and if you pass mucus or uterine tissue it will be obvious.

Upon getting out of the water the blood will be diluted with the water so it will potentially run down your legs for everyone to see and getting on the side of the pool, again more noticeable when heavy.

If you want to swim on your period use one of the following:

  • Tampons
  • Soft tampons
  • Menstrual sponges
  • Menstrual cups
  • Diaphragms
  • Softcups

Menstrual cups are the best option as they are far safer and more hygienic than tampons - thus no risks of vaginal infections, increased cramps, or Toxic Shock Syndrome - this means that they can be worn with light flow so you don't have to sit out like you would with tampons, and they can be worn for up to 12 hours so no needed to get out the water to change every few hours. With menstrual cups nothing shows outside the water, they don't absorb water, and they don't leak like other options.

Was the Sahara a savanna rain forest or Mediterranean climate?

The savannah desert in Mali is a desert, but it hasn't always been like that. Archeologists have found out that in the 14th century people lived in the savannah desert because it was a rainforest. During time, the rich vegetation has gone and now all that is left of the savannah is a desert.

I hope this helps!:)

What is the names of some tropical plants?

There are thousands of types of plants that grow on tropical islands. Coconuts are one that is very widespread because of the ability of their seeds (coconuts) to float on the ocean for at least two months and then germinate when they reach the shore of another island. Palms are also common.

Pineapples, bananas, and other tropical fruits have been introduced to many tropical islands by humans.

Because islands and/or island chains are isolated, each one often has many endemic species (endemic means that they aren't found anywhere else in the world).

Some other plants include:

Tree Heliotrope (Heliotropium foertherianum)

Calophyllum inophyllum

Glueberry (Cordia subcordata)

Bermuda Grass (although it isn't native to Bermuda. It comes from other tropical islands).

Pisonia grandis

Portulaca oleracea

Tridax procumbens (a type of daisy)

Ximenia americana (Yellow plum or Sea lemon)

These are only a few of thousands of plants that live on tropical islands. I hope this was helfpul.
