People are cutting down large sections of several rain forests in order to convert that land to agriculture. Much of this is done in order to allow these people to sustain their lives.
That is where the problem lies. We view these people as evil because they are destroying their forests. They view it as a survival issue.
Fortunately, forest is growing in some areas. North America, as an example has more forests (and thicker) then 100 years ago. As other countries become less dependent on agriculture as their only livelihood, this issue will go away.
