I'm thinking rain forests are formed by sunlight, rain and seeds. The seeds need sunlight and rain to grow into plants and trees. I think the animals traveled to the rainforests by walking with there legs.

It is very thick jungle that is almost contantly raining and humid. The two layers of trees, the emergent layer and the canopy are actually so thick that in some layers don't let light penetrate to the forest floor. The rainforest gets one of the largest amounts of precipitation at about 108in a year. The trees there are mostly broad-leaf evergreen trees.

Some people are trying to blame the diminished size of the jungles on big business. The reality is, many of the natives of jungle lands are living longer now because of modern medicine. People from industrialized nations go to 3rd world nations and provide medicine and other resources which result in increased life span and decreased infant mortality. The result is an explosive population. Those people build homes by cutting down sections of the jungle. They provide for their families by turning jungle lands into pasture for cattle and fields for crops. While much of the popular media would attempt to convince you that big business is responsible for the loss of jungle lands, the reality is, most of it goes to the locals, who cut down the trees and sell the wood in the cities as firewood so that they can buy something they need. While big business is not DIRECTLY responsible for most of the loss of the jungle lands, it is responsible for increased life spans and population growth. We must learn that when we take our cures into the jungle, we have a responsibility to also take our population controls.

EDIT: This answer is ridiculous. The natives and population nearby would NEVER in history have been capable of cutting down the rainforest at the rate that is happening currently. A few trees a day, but with big business, suddenly a hundred trees are crashing to the ground day by day. Don't be a fool and claim that the small locals are starting up the engines on they VH3 Tree Tractors or crying with excitement when they vroom up the chainsaws... No it is 90% Big Business and greed that is killing innocent frogs, bugs and animals. They cut down trees and don't shed a tear when bears, frogs, insects and all the variety of animals suffer with the loss of their lives.

The kiwi does live in temperate rainforests in New Zealand. It is not found in tropical rainforests. The kiwi's habitat is also native forests, and kauri and coniferous forest where the undergrowth is dominated by tree ferns.

Knowing that more than 50% of the world's amimals and plants live in the tropical rainforests is extremely important. This means that we must sustain the rainforests so that the animals have a habitat. Otherwise, when trees are cut down, the plants and animals that live in these tree will die for they have no where else to live. This leads to the animals and plants that live in the soil.

The dramatic loss of trees, that anchor the soil with its roots, causes widespread erosion throughout the tropics. The only good soils that are able to survive are cleared away by the rain because the trees leaves aren't there to stop it from getting to the soil. Rica loses about 860 million tons of trop soil after deforestation while the Great Red Island, Madagascar loses so much soil to erosion (400 tons/ha) that its rivers turn red-blood, staining the Indians oceans.

After rainfall rains on cleared forest lands, the run off the damaged trop soils are carried into local rivers and creaks. Hydroelectric products and irrigation infrastructure lose productivity from siltation while industrial installations suspend operations due to the lack of fresh water.

It also damages fishes for the increased sediment load in rivers smothers the fish eggs causing them to hatch slower. When the suspended particles of sediment get towards the ocean the water turns cloudy causing the coral reefs to die off and effects coastal fisheries' businesses.

Well this is a really interesting question because of the fact that trees can help us but there can be a lot of ways that they can hurt us also. Is cutting down trees considered pollution? Yes: Because of the fact that if we go to the extreme of cuting them down and then burning them and affect the ecoystsem that we live in today. It could put pollutants that we are not completeely used to yet into the air. This can can cause diseases that we are not even used yet. No: It can help us because then we dont know what kind of help it can bring to us in the future we do not know what kind of up sides that this can bring to us.
