To do it with a OFA Kameleon 4:-

The DVD needs to be put in service mode. Start DVD and wait for disk to load. Press Stop followed by Eject, then turn the volume nob until the Service menu appears. Then, follow the same procedure as for most modern Sony DVD players:

1. Hold the magic button until it flashes twice.

2. Press DVD

3. Press 0533 (flashes twice)

4. Hold the magic button until it flashes twice.

5. Press 994

6. Press Magic Key (don't hold)

7. Press 00189

8. Press 1 ( this sets it to key 1 - it flashes twice )

Now program function codes into buttons 2-5 like this:

* Repeat steps 4-6, then 00255 2

* Repeat steps 4-6, then 00095 3

* Repeat steps 4-6, then 00221 4

* Repeat steps 4-6, then 00079 5

To actually convert the DAV-DZ111 DVD to region-free:

13. Press 12345 - Recorder goes back to standby

14. Press 12345 - Recorder starts up

Notes:

1 - Unlike the instructions for other Sony DVDs found here and elsewhere, the device should be powered up -- the hack procedure will not work with the DVD in stand-by

2 - Player does not display "SUCCESS" or "TIMER OK", it simply powers down then powers up

you have to know the specific code for the dvd player you are using... it should come in the instructions that came withe the controller, or search online the code for it if you don't have the instructions! Hope it helped!

i tried using the precision code 166 to program the tv bgut it didnt work. i used an RCA remote control and followed all the steps.

Turn the device on you want to program - the TV for instance. Point the remote directly at the TV. Hold down the TV button and the power button illuminates while also holding down the TV button at the same time. When the power button turns off, then release both keys. Now, point the remote directly at the front panel of the device, hold down the play button for 5 seconds. Did your device turn off? If yes press the stop key and you're done. If no, keep pressing play every 5 seconds until your device turns off. When your device turns off, press the reverse key on the remote and wait at least 2 seconds. I could never find the SOYO codes until now. The cable company gave me these codes. 11826, 11546, 11831, 11830, 11824, 11828, 11823, and 10466.

11830 is the one that worked for me. I was really surprised. Been looking for the last six years and finally found them. This is for a remote from the cable company I got because of a cable upgrade. Maybe they'll work for you. I think SOYO is out of business. The TV works great but they were a bad company to do business with.

with a GE 4-way universal remote (24944), 8225 & 8181 will work with power and changing channel, etc. It won't however work with the volume controls/mute/etc.

Try programming the remote to operate another set other than the Symphonic. If the remote works, fasten your seatbelt. Here's why. There are still a few "hard-headed" manufacturers who make sets that have remotes with "oddball codes" and they cannot be replaced with the universal remotes. Some Symphonic sets are like this. Buy a remote from a company that will take it back if it won't program to your set. Ask them up front about returns. Radio Shack is one such company that will take the remote back if you cannot make it work with your unit and you return it with all the stuff it came with - including the receipt.
