Renaissance

Prior to colonial exploration many believed that the world was flat. By discovering a sea route to Asia, colonial powers opened up more trade routes. They also determined that the world was not flat at all.

Renaissance was a cultural movement.

They are similar because they both do arts and craft and they both have the power to tell their child what to do and what to wear and how they should be in life,and that they should have a good future :)

Two of the four causes that led to the Renaissance are the black plague and the press. The other two causes that led to the Renaissance includes the changes in climate and the new trade routes taken by the crusades.

The Renaissance ushered in the Age of Exploration, which played a large role in the expansion of trade and the Commercial Revolution. Because of discovery voyages and acquisitions, Europeans were able to expand trade networks and increase their world power through empires.

The Renaissance produced great works of painting and sculpture. It also saw a flourishing of poetry and drama in vernacular languages.

There is no exact political or social event that occurred to mark the beginning of the Renaissance or the end of the Middle Ages for that matter. But a general guideline can be that this transition began late in the 14th century (after the Black Death) and through the 15th century with the advent of modern technology and exploration.

The Renaissance metalworker who designed the doors for the Baptistry was Lorenzo Ghiberti. He was also a well-known architect and forged the doors from bronze.

A system in which a wealthy person or patron would gain power, status, and money by employing a scientist who would seek new knowledge. The client/scientist would therefore also gain power, status, and money. It was a win-win situation.

Italy France

The Renaissance sought to revive the classic Greek and Roman learning.

Southern Renaissance came first and focused on humanism, which is gloryfing man and focuses on human values, The southerm, or Italian Reniaissance, refered back to the classical styles of the Greeks, making ideal images. The Northern Renaissance however approached at a much slower rate and can also be classified as Late Gothic. Unlike the secular styles that the southern art sometimes portrayed, the Northern art stayed focused more on religion. These pieces used alot of iconography to display symbolism in there works. Also different types of medians were used. The Italians used a lot of Fresco which is actually mixing the dyes of the paint with the plaster in the wall as it dryed to paint a mural, versus just painting on the exterior of the plaster itself. The Northerners painted on a lot of wood, and made diptych and triptychs.

Caravaggio didn't paint by the rules. Instead he painted from real life, taking models from the streets - scandalous at the time. He also used light and dark lighting effects, called chiaroscuro.
