Which brand is best for scuba wetsuits?
Answer Truth be told most major brands (akona, cressi, seaquest, cameo, body glove which you can get from dipndive.com) are really about equal. The owner of my dive shop said once that there are a limited number of makers of the neopreme used in wetsuits and that many different brands use the same supplier. Personally, I have an akona wetsuit but I have used other brands and been just as satisified. The only caution I can give is to try on a sample suit at a dive shop before switching brands as sizing can differ slightly.

How can you cover your tattoo when you swim?
If you have a new tattoo it isn't recommended to have your tattoo in water for an extended amount of time. If you are going in the water you could use medical tape, saran wrap, and whatever ointment your tattooist recommends for the healing process. I, personally, would put ointment on the tattoo, cover it with the saran wrap and then use the medical tape to hold it on. Doesn't sound very attractive, but it will allow you to spend time in the water and not affect the tattoo.
What is a direct drive compressor?
A direct drive compressor is an air compressor that can be hooked right to a product that needs air without having to fill an air tank first. They are also usually self lubricating, which means that no oil is usually required. They tend to draw low amperage and can handle pressures around 110 psi.
Another way the term is used is for air horns that can replace the stock horn on a car. They usually come packaged with small direct drive compressors that can blow about 12-15 psi that can be hooked right to the horn without needing an air tank.
How did the Jumanos tattoo themselves?
they used knives to cut the skin to put the ink inside the people.
Yes, they have a PADI-based training program available through their athletics department.
What is the meaning of ABC in scuba diving?
The meaning of ABC in scuba diving is Mask, Fin and Snorkel. We can call them as main aparatus.
What is the best water sandal for active people?
Try Crocs - I have heard a lot of positive acknowlegdements amongst people who are on a boat, in and out of water a lot. It's a great multi purpose foot wear - dry or wet.
Why do people go scuba diving?
People (including me) go SCUBA diving because it's fun! It's like taking a walk through a beautiful forest, only the "forest" in question is underwater. It's an awesome experience!!!
"Bad air" is more dangerous at depth, for several reasons.
1. Breathing contaminated gas at the surface, and becoming symptomatic (unconscious for example) will be less likely to result in the diver drowning.
2. Boyles law (simplified) tells us that pressure and volume are inversely proportional. So, as depth increases, the volume of the gas decreases. With the molecules in our breathing gas pressed ever so close together, we will take on more of the contaminant per breath, and transport it throughout our body.
Now in some cases, (carbon monoxide, for example) the higher partial pressure of Oxygen (we get more of that per breath too!) at depth will mask the symptoms of the contaminant. When the divers ascend, the partial pressure of O2 drops... Suddenly the diver is acutely aware of his dilemma.
A (much) more detailed description of the above is available in the US Navy Diving Manual, Revision 6. It is available for download free of charge on the USN SUPSALV website. Be aware: It's a big book!
Are there fog resistant scuba diving masks?
There are no fog-proof lenses available. I assume plastic lenses might be slightly less likely due to fog compared to glass, considering that plastic is much less thermally conductive. However, I have heard that plastic lenses still fog up. The colder the water is, the more likely it is that water will condense on the inside of the lens. The best way to prevent fogging is to apply spit or a commercially available anti-fog agent to the inside of the mask lens and rinsing just prior to diving. I dive in cold water (50f) all the time and don't have problems with fogging when I use anti-fog.
Where can you get a carbon fiber air tank filled in southeastern North Carolina?
Almost all paintball fields have them, and some sporting goods stores. But also check diving shops, gas shops (places that sell oxygen and co2 tanks) and firehouses, if they are closer.
How many oxygen tanks should be in a submersible?
You should use a number sufficient to provide for all oxygen needs expected. 42 is a good number.
Where can one rent equipment to scuba dive the Great Barrier Reef?
There are many PADI dive shops along the Queensland coast where the Great Barrier Reef is located. Any of those shops offer scuba dive gear rentals and tours.
Can people scuba dive with a broken bone?
You cannot safely dive with a broken bone. If it is a leg bone, it could be very hard to swim during scuba diving. If you have a broken arm bone, you could have trouble getting out of something if you get stuck. It is really unsafe to dive with a broken bone. When I got SCUBA certified, I learned never to dive with a broken bone, and to stay out of the water.
Usually this is caused by your mask being to small, try a larger mask, or it may be a medical problem seek out your doctor for a check-up.....
Is it safe to scuba dive in shallow water 20-30 ft when you are trying or have just become pregnant?
DEFINATELY NOT!!!! The largest pressure change is between 30 feet and the surface, You could give the Baby decompression sickness without showing symptoms yourself !!!
You shouldn't scuba dive during pregnancy, the safety issue really hasn't been ruled out, but I wouldn't risk it. On the health waiver form, it asks if you are currently pregnant or trying to become pregnant, if maked with a "yes". They will not allow you to dive. I'm guessing it's not a good idea. If you are a regular diver it probably won't do any harm but it is not something to do for the first time.
Why should a patient with decompression sickness carried by foot with the head lowermost?
The "theory" regarding moving an individual with decompression sickness ("the bends) with feet elevated above the head is based on the idea that bubbles of gas float in liquid. Here's the idea. Breathing compressed air for "too long" and then surfacing without decompression stops causes gas to come out of solution in the blood and form bubbles. By keeping the head lowered, it is thought that the bubbles will be less likely to make their way to the brain. Bubbles in the circulatory system in the brain (or anywhere else) could block blood flow and, after only a few minutes, cause tissue death. The thinking is that if some tissue is going to die while "the rest" of the affected person survives, a bit of loss in the lower limbs is preferably to the loss of brain tissue. Loss of brain tissue has a catastrophic effect on personality, on the individual's identity, and on cognitive and motor functions. It's devastating. Better to lose, say, a portion of a leg than have one whole side of the body paralyzed. That is the thinking behind the idea.
When scuba diving what is the pressure at thirty feet?
The method is the same, but the formula differs depending on whether you want it in meters or feet.
The easy method in feet is to add .3 atmospheres (ata) every 10 feet (or every 3 meters) and then add a surface atmosphere, so 30 feet would be:
[(.3 x 3=.9) +1] = 1.9 ata
The simple formula for feet is: (Depth + 33)/33
For meters it is: (Depth +10)/10
One atm is defined as 101.325 kPa or 14.7 psig. A somewhat newer unit has been introduced to replace atm, particularly when working in metric units. The "bar" is defined as exactly 100 kPa or 14.5 psig. One bar is equivalent to 32.81 feet of sea water.
What pressure does a dive mask have to be able to withstand?
Enough to keep you from dying. After undergoing and extended research, no exact number was revealed for the pressure a dive mask must withstand. Although they obviously must withstand thousands of pounds of pressure due to the weight of the ocean water that one will be wading through.
