It was recommended on WebMD to place a piece of plywood between the boxspring and mattress. However, you can also try rotating and flipping the mattress. If it is more than ten years old, you will do best to replace it. Box springs do not need to be replaced if you are purchasing a same size mattress.

Never use plywood to stiffen a mattress. If it is too soft, the it is worn out. Replacing it is the only solution.

Quilting is an ancient art, yet is very simple to accomplish. What you need is a frame, sissors, quilting needles, thread, material, and batting. The quilting frame is to both hold the quilt and to keep it taut. Frames range in size from embroidery hoops to bed-sized frames that a community can quilt. In order to make a quilt, one decides on a pattern. Quilt patterns are amazingly varied, from classic patch quilts to regional patterns to national patterns. They can be simple like the nine patch pattern or complex, employing elements of trapunto, quilting, and garment shaping. Once the design has been decided and made, the top (the quilt pattern) is layered with a bottom base, batting (the filler) and the top. This "sandwich" is then placed into the quilt frame. Securing the quilt in the frame insures that the material won't bunch and the stitches will be even. If one uses an embroidery hoop, then one must work from the center of the quilted piece to the outer edge in order to insure that the piece is evenly stitched and properly tight. Quilting needles are short so that the stitches can be made quickly and evenly. They are designed to hold no more than two or three three stitches on the needle for accurate pattern compliance. If one is making a single color quilt, this can be of paramount importance because there is no other pattern other than the one that is sewn into the fabric.

To wind the bobbin you thread the machine except for the hook above the needle and the needle itself and pull the thread over the notch at the top on the front. Start the thread on the bobbin just till it stays and then place it on the little post on the right side by the wheel and pull down the small lever just above the post and then press on the pedal and wind till the bobbin is full. I still haven't figured out how to thread the bobbin yet but it shouldn't be to hard.

As well as the antique value (the Type 10 was launched in 1907) these machines are still used in commercial settings today. As a result, one can be worth up to $1000, if in good working order with table, motor and clutch, etc.

Try looking on ebay at completed listings to see how much they sell for. It depends on the model, a common machine will be worth less than a rarer machine. But generally, anything from about £60-£250 or sometimes even more for a working antique singer treadle is realistic. Btw, ebay isn't the best place to sell such things, as they cannot be posted, and the chances of someone living near enough to collect it AND who is willing to pay for a big van or something to transport it AND who particularly likes your machine is slim.

Most antique sewing machines do not display the model number anywhere on the machine. If the machine is made by Singer, you can cross the serial number to a model number and "birthdate" at singerco.com. If the machine is made by some other company, you will need to do some research. Trimming scissors are used for cutting thread and cloth.

An easy way is to sew with a decorative stitch. Another way is to decorate with embroidery such as counted cross stitch or with an applied pattern. Another way to decorate is with applied ribbons, lace, ruffles, appliques, buttons, braiding, or rick rack. Another way would be to decorate with beads and/or sequins.
