I find the book "Dog Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook (Howell Reference Books)" [there's one for cat's too, just as good] to be very helpful when needing to figure out what you can give your pet in these situations. Both, dog and cat, books have a chapter on what home medications you can give for the conditions/symptoms and in what dosages.

Warning, after reading either of those books you may wonder who the medicine cabinet is for - you or your pet, because you'll both be using the meds to treat yourselves. The books also tell you, as do the above links, when a run to the Vet is indicated.

These books have saved me a lot of money in avoiding unnecessary trips to the Vet for "tummy aches."

You don't have to have a fancy name for a Maltese Shih Tzu mix... Most of the time breeders refer to them as a;

Maltese Shih Tzu

If you really want to, you can shorten the two names to come up with something like;

Maltzu, or Maltshih...

I would go with Maltese Shih Tzu as it is a more well-known name... But it is your choice...

Honestly, it's not the most simple dog to take care of it, but all dogs take work. I feed my Shih-Tzus once a day, always have water, and just simply let them out to use the batheroom. Make sure you brush their coat about once a day, depending how long the fur is. But, you have to get them a haircut about 2-3 months, depending on how long you want it and how much you take care of it. They are a very good natured breed, and good for families with young children, eldery, and everyone inbetween. I would recommend this breed to anyone. I love my Shih-Tzus! <3

in the areas I live in which is North Carolina, the average prices are from $250-350 and a few even higher, around 450-500. I am currently buying one from a reputable breeder out of Asheville for $350. She raises her pups in her home so they are raised better than in a breeder situation. I'll let you know how this turns out as I will be bringing my pup home on the 15th.

i heard that you can bath them every 2 weeks and bring them to the groomers every 6 weeks also if you were to have a mixed breed you would check on the other breed and come up with somewhere in between

Hi there! Well my shihtzu just had her puppies 3 weeks ago and this is her first litter. She is on the small, small side and she had 5 puppies! but it depends.

I would find out about your shihtzus "Mother" if her mother had a big litter ex.(7pups) chances are she won't have only 1 or 2 but more.

This is how I estimated how many my dog was going to have but if she was bigger she probably would've gave birth to 6-7 pups.

It's a great experience but I wouldn't do it if you aren't completely ready money wise and mind wise.

You should only mix two breeds and not breed the pups because of their mixed genes. But, even though it is against my opinion, it would be a Morkie-Tzu or Malkie-tzu.

it might be damaged and i have a shih tzu too so i know what your question mean but the best way to figure out why is to see a vet because its more of a pain to watch someone you love in pain than give money to people

a shih tzu is a dog and almost all dogs like the outside- whether its cold or warm. their fur keeps them warm and their skin can keep them cool. if you are worried about your dog in the cold, buy him/her a sweater- higher than the waist so it can do its business without it getting "dirty". if you don't believe in dressing your dog, then only stay outside with your dog for five- ten minutes and warm them up when they get inside.
