How do you know when to replace a roof shingles?

Sooner or later, every roof needs to be replaced, usually due to the long-term effects of weathering. If a residential roof is more than 20 years old, it is a prime candidate for re-roofing.

To determine if you need a new roof:

On the ground, walk around your home with binoculars and inspect your roof for cracked, curled or missing shingles, as well as any excessive loss of the protective mineral granules. DO NOT CLIMB ON THE ROOF; walking on the roof is dangerous and can damage your roof.

In your attic, take a flashlight and look at the underside of the roof deck and rafters for any stains or wet spots indicating water leaks.

Asphalt shingles can often be applied directly over existing roofs without the necessity of tearing off the old roof. However, new shingles cannot be properly applied over hard or brittle materials, uneven surfaces for nailing or roof decks with warped, rotted or unsound support that should first be replaced or repaired.

Some local ordinances forbid re-roofing over two or more layers of shingles. If a home already has been shingled several times, it is important to first determine if the roof deck can support another layer of shingles before undertaking any re-roofing project.

The doctor says he is sure it is shingles because it is only on 1 side of the body. In fact, if you look at the scrotum, there is a perfect line where there are sores on one side but not the other. It started on the glans penis and simultaneously in the small of my back and then both areas quickly spread to cover my butt and scrotum & now the two areas have merged. I am on valtrex.

What could cause a 13-year-old to have shingles?

I'm not a doctor, but I have an opinion. I believe a light case of chicken pox in childhood and then an exposure to the virus that causes shingles, at 13 could cause a 13 year old to get it. believe this because I did not have chicken pox as a child, overheard a receptionist telling another receptionist, at my physician's office, that she didn't want to be at work because she had shingles, jotted it down in my date book and then had an adult case of chicken pox (one area of the outbreak was a little shingle-like). My exposure to this receptionist was handing her my ID and then passing money back and forth. Many years ago my mother had a visit with a great niece who had chicken pox and then came down with shingles. They visited and hugged. It seems too coincidental to me that one follows the other. Just don't let her scratch any of it. I have a little scar where I scratched one. Poor little thing. It will all go away soon.
