How much felt paper do you need for 30 square roof?

Here's what I can help you with: 3 roofing squares means 300 square feet (1 square = 100 feet). On a regular basis, one square is covered by 3 bundles of shingles. Roofing felt (1F) is usually supplied in rolls (30 ' of length), with one side covered with sand or synthetic granules. Be aware that there are two kind of felt impregnations: bituminous and tar - there is a distinction between these two. If I were you, I would surely look (and go) for the newest waterproofing membranes, lot more less prone to puncture and tear. I hope this helped. Succes!

Can you get shingles from a chickenpox patient?

A child or someone who never had chicken pox before can get chickenpox from someone who has chickenpox (varicella).

The same virus that causes chickenpox (varicella zosteror VSV) can cause shingles. If you previously had chicken pox, you cannot be re-infected with chicken pox.

Shingles only affects older people, generally over 50 yrs old, or if the person is immuno-compromised.

So a child who has chicken pox can infect any person who never had chicken pox..

But once you have had chicken pox, your body creates immunity, even if your chicken pox were "mild" at the time. The virus remains in the body. In later years, the virus can be re-activated to cause shingles.

A person with shingles can give someone chicken pox, but only if the child never had chicken pox before. And it usually requires direct contact with the oozing sores, or saliva.

An older person with shingles cannot give another older person shingles, but the second person might be more vulnerable to developing shingles (i.e. having the virus re-triggered in their own body) if the second older person touches the oozing fluid, or is under stress, or is immuno-compromised. For example, let's say John develops shingles. He and his wife, Mary, are both 65 yrs old and each had chicken pox as children. Mary has had chemotherapy during the last year for breast cancer and her immune system is not good. She touches one of the oozing sores on her husband, then forgets to wash her hands immediately. She brushes her hair from her face and rubs her eyes from being fatigued. Within weeks, she too develops shingles. It could also spread if John touches weeping sores and doesn't wash his hands; or allows someone to touch the open sores.

Ramsay-hunt syndrome come on acute or chronic onset?

Hi, I have been suffering with this disease for many years. I think my history will explain your question. I had my first onset when I was 29 years old. I had numerous piercings on my ears that would constantly get infected which i never treated. Fianlly, the infection turned into something way worse. Naturally, the doctors did not diagnose me properly and simply gave me some antibiotics. Two days later it was worse and they just put me on more antibiotics; when what i actually need was an anti-viral. I had 3 onsets when finally they had to call in a specialist who diagnosed me right on the spot. "Herpes Zoster" otherwise known as "Ramsey Hunt Syndrome". So unfortunately, i wasn't treated properly during my first few outbreaks and it was REALLY bad. I later found out, on a message board with people who have Ramsey Hunt, that most of the people that weren't given the right medication on the first unset of the disease, where the same people who would have "chronic" cases of the disease throughout life. People who were put on anti-viral medication within 72 hours of onset seemed to be the prople who only had it once. Some people only get it once, but there are many of us who get onsets on a chronic basis. Mine flares every 2 months and i have permanent nerve damage in my ears. They itch every day of my life (i have it in both my ears now). But even those people who only have it once can suffer a lifetime with chronic pain. I, unfortunately, suffer with chronic pain every day of my life and have problems with my balance as well. Hope this answers your question.

Can more shingles bumps break out after the others are scabbed over?

Yes, it's possible for more shingles bumps to appear even after existing blisters have scabbed over. Shingles can have a variable course, and new lesions may develop as the virus continues to replicate in the affected nerve. However, the appearance of new bumps may also indicate a need to consult a healthcare provider, especially if accompanied by increased pain or other concerning symptoms. Always follow medical advice for managing shingles effectively.

What does it mean for a virus to be latent in a person's body?

It means that the virus stays "hidden" and inactive in their bodies, instead of being completely destroyed, and then can later reactivate and cause new and sometimes different symptoms.

This happens, for example, with the virus that causes chicken pox. Once it is inactive after the acute phase of that infection, it can stay that way in the body (in the nerve tissues in this example) for decades, and then reactivate and cause the nerve pain and rash that is called "Shingles" or "Herpes Zoster" later in life. It is also true that polio viruses can remain latent until decades later and then reactivate with weakness and other, sometimes debilitating, symptoms. Several viruses are able to become latent this way.
