The first of the over under shotguns appeared in the 1830s. One of the main advantages of the over under design is less recoil on firing.

Our Favorite was a trade name used by the W.H. Davenport Arms Company on inexpensive shotguns. They were made for the hardware and mail order business from 1891 to 1910.

I believe this firearm was probably made by the Crescent Arms Co., which was associated with H & D Folsom Co. until the demise of both in the early 1930's. Firearms made by Crescent Arms were generally not of the quality, although quite serviceable, of firearms made by the major arms manufactures. Crescent Arms not only made firearms under their own name but also "house brand" guns under various names, Volunteer Arms being but one of many. Any of these older low cost shotguns should probably be inspected by a qualified gunsmith before shooting as most of these inexpensive trade guns were not only used, but used hard.

As for value the fact that it is a .410 is, unless the firearm is in very poor shape, in your favor. Most of the firearm made by Folsom/Cresent Arms, unless of museum quality, are worth no more than $200 to $300, usually a lot less. A .410 though, because small bore double barrel shotguns are somewhat rare, could bring more. How much more is impossible to say without knowing the condition of the firearm.

You should be OK with standard loads.

Cobray derringers are currently in production and have been made for approximately since 1992 .Cobray is the same company who made the MAC 10 submachine gun in the 80's,They are made in several different configurations including single barrel and double barrel with 45 long colt /.410 shotgun shell ( it can fire either interchangeably ) caliber being the most common but i have owned a 357 mag./38 special version and one with a .22 long rifle upper barrel and a .410 lower barrel value is 100-150 dollars in excellent condition they also make a .410/45LC and a .22 LR pepper-box type revolver and a full size .410 shotgun. This is a wild guess: Mossberg, Marlin, Savage, Stevens & Hi Standard all made Shotguns for Western Auto. None had a Number of 888 but there was a 330 that was a Mossberg Model 183K. It was a Bolt action Shotgun. In poor condition it is worth $25. Good=$50 and EX:=$90 AGAIN this is a Guess: Hope this helps

How much is a 60 year old Harrington & Richardson Handy Gun, 410 gauge worth?

I bought an o/u by this Italian maker in 1968 and paid about £70 it was nearly new at that time, but have no idea of todays values. Still a very good well made gun.

An Ithaca with serial number 47162 was manufactured between 1888 and 1901 and is called a Crass model after the designer. It was offered in 9 quality levels in three gauges. 16 gauge guns command a 20% price premium. The value depends on the quality level and the condition. A standard snap, the center quickly places the ball in-between his legs to the quarterback.

NO!! Not without having the chamber reamed out by a gunsmith. I have yet to hear of a 3" 16 guage. I would certainly hesitate to use anything that produced higher chamber and barrel pressures than what was considered standard when the gun was made.--Jack

You can shoot skeet, but not too far away with a smooth bore. The barrel on security models w/ extended mag. tubes is not interchangable with hunting models. (learned the hard way, even bought a new 24" barrel). The mag. tubes are pinned in on security models (mine is a 500A) as opposed to screwed in on hunting models. This is not listed in the books to order, nor do they tell you this when ordering unless you ask. I had my fav. gun shop / range order mine, and they were not informed when looking it up nor ordering. Use shorter shells for tighter patterns to get more distance.

Hi Sean, Sure you can use your 500. It might be fine just like it is too! I'd try it and see how you like it. You can always upgrade later on and you will have as much fun as anyone shooting. Good luck Mike

You can shoot a rifled slug out of a smooth bored barrels only. You want to have an improved or modified choke on when shooting a rifled slug. It helps the rotaion and accuracy of the slug. Never use a rifled slug in a rilfed barrel. You could destroy your gun if the rilfing in the gun and slug do not match. This is not a gamlbe I am willing to take with any of my guns.

Yes. Accuracy may be better in an IC choked barrel, but they are safe to shoot.

First you will need to make sure the gun is unloaded.When the gun is completely empty the action will stay open when pulled back. At the end of the forearm there is a metalcap that will uncrew. after that is removed you can then slide the forearm off. The while holding the barrel gently pull it loose while slightly wiggling it. This should give you access to all the main parts of the gun. Assembly is the reverse.
