What is 'You are dying' when translated from English to Sicilian?

Tu stai murènnu! is a Sicilian equivalent of the English phrase "You are dying!"

Specifically, the subject pronoun tu -- which does not have to be used other than for emphasis -- is "(informal singular) you." The present progressive auxiliary stai and participle murènnu translates as "(informal singular you) are (busy, in the process of) dying." The pronunciation will be "tuh stih muh-REN-nuh" in Sicilian.

Is catania in Sicily?

Yes. Catania is the second largest city in Sicily and the tenth in Italy itself. Catania is located on the east coast of Sicily facing the Ionian Sea, between Messina and Syracuse.

Unfortunately (IMO) for those living in Catania, it is also located at the foot of Mt. Etna, which is one of the most active volcanoes in the world and is in an almost constant state of activity.

What are some human environment interactions in Sicily?

Human environment interaction in Sicily is similar to most other countries. Whenever we do anything to change the environment, that is interaction.

  • Building roads.
  • Building houses.
  • Cutting down trees.
  • Planting crops
  • Polluting the atmosphere with carbon dioxide
  • Learning how to survive with little water.
  • Throwing litter
  • Establishing a landfill
  • Building a dam or a bridge across a river.

I'm sorry to write that it is awful. The people of Sicily consider of value only personal properties and consider of no values common properties. Just to explain how it works (I saw this 4 years ago during a staying in Messina): the bartender cleans of the garbage left by customers his tables, cleans them carefully and throw the collected garbage in the full-up-to-puking waste container on the opposite sidewalk, actually damping half of his garbage on the ground. His spot was perfectly clean with a view on a dumping ground. Their attitude is to spoil, use and not preserve nature.

They also have an inclination to consider (their) boundaries mobile forward, until the neighbour reacts and they shift back.

Not a very good attitude toward environment.

Are native Sicilians part African?

The first towns in Sicily were founded by the Phoenicians, and followed soon after by the Greeks. There was a great deal of trade back and forth between what is now the Middle East and Sicily. Later there was also abundant trade between the ports of North Africa and Sicily. The Africans towns were also for the most part of Greek or Phoenician origin, but of course they attracted Berbers, Arabs and other Africans, some of whom entered the Mediterranean trade and found their way to Sicily and elsewhere around the sea. So Sicilians often have very complex and mixed backgrounds, including in many cases African descent.
